Stereotypes

Re: Stereotypes

Yes! I have never been recognized as being a Pakistani. Always as an arab, especially middle-eastern people look dismayed when I tell them am Pakistani. I had one Irani lady say to me a couple of days back at a check out at the store, that I was too fair to a Pakistani. I am a proud Pakistani and we all come in different shades, but why do non Pakistanis assume that if you are fair you are an arab of some sort and if you are dark (like my husband) you are Indian?

Re: Stereotypes

The moment people find out i'm sindhi they assume i'm a PPP / Zardari supporter. And i do take offence to it.

Re: Stereotypes

Nerrrrrmind..

Re: Stereotypes

As for me,

when I visit people in pakistan they get so shocked that I can speak urdu.

Re: Stereotypes

No one believes me when I say I am ABCD…no one.

Re: Stereotypes

You should show them that you are flatttered by it :D Last time i spoke to a relative on after agesssss, and she started speaking to me in english (we both were in pakistan) and i spoke in urdu :D

Re: Stereotypes

There are immigrants and then there are recent immigrants. But yeah everyone IS an immigrant except for the Aboriginies of course.

Re: Stereotypes

I do but I think its better to just not say much.

If I speak in English...it looks bad and if I speak Urdu it also looks bad.

So its best to just shutttyyyyyy...lol

Re: Stereotypes

People go haw hai when I tell them I’m ABD. They say why are you in Pakistan :smack:.
That’s the reason I avoid letting people know about it.

Re: Stereotypes

so you are not confused. are you? :x2:

Re: Stereotypes

not at all STA ;)

Re: Stereotypes

not in Paki land.
Everyone knows people raised in PAkistan are never confused :biggthumb:

Re: Stereotypes

That if I dont have an accent, I must have been born in Canada..

lol, I don't have an accent when I talk but I was born and raised for a good part of my life in Pakistan.

Re: Stereotypes

I have a Korean friend who came here few years ago and has no accent whatsoever "/

Re: Stereotypes

People think that I am some arrogant, stuck up snob who is good for nothing. It gets so annoying when they make this assumption without giving me a chance to prove that I am indeed a stuck up snob who is good for nothing.

Re: Stereotypes

huh. what is stereotype here if you and people think same that you are snob.

Re: Stereotypes

whenever i tell any Gora/Gori that i'm from India, they assume i do NOT eat beef and when i tell them i am an Indian Muslim and i do eat beef then they are really surprised. lol

Re: Stereotypes

:smack: stereotypical assumption is stereotypical.

Re: Stereotypes

nvm- reread the post

Re: Stereotypes

Just because I am very fair, have light eyes and a round face, people automatically assume I must be Pathan or punjabi or Afghani!!:naraz:
I have so many punjabi and Pathan friends who are not even fair!!
The best part which I enjoy the most is when I tell them I am not even Pakistani - I’m Bangladeshi - the reactions which I get are sometimes funy and sometimes offensive.
The usual answer which I get is - " Hain??? Magar Bengalis to kaale hotay hain? Unko toh itni acchi Urdu nai aati? Woh to short hotey hai?":grumpy:
Excuse me!!! How many Bengalis have they seen? Not all Bengalis are dark and not all pathans and Punjabis are fair!!:naraz:
