Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

I am just pained to see the different posts by some of the posters who are not able to hide their glee when ordinary people are getting killed. Talk of revenge and hatred towards the other sects just sickened me. It set me thinking. I am giving an outsider perspective to the whole issue.

I was just thinking on what steps the Pakistan govt can take to end this sectarian hatred. This hatred is not just confined to the people who go out and commit acts of terror. If the educated class (I am assuming that most of the people who post here are educated) has this kind of mentality, I think the rot runs deep within.

In my opinion the govt should institute a committee of the most respect moulvis of the different sects and ask them to issue a joint appeal to end this strife and ask them to work in a co-ordinated manner to remove the hatred. I know miracles cannot happen overnight but small steps need to be taken. Anything else that can be done to stop these unnecessary killings.

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

^ The suspicions and hatreds between the ulema of different sects runs so deep that its not easy to bring them together. Secondly a government is needed which tries to solve these issues, the present regime has proved itself to be an incompetent and indifferent government.

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

It is not possible that government won't know what to do. They know who are the political supporters of these mufsideen. But govt is silent because action against them is not politically expedient.

if govt makes determination to rid country of this terrorism then it is not an impossible task. For example, *it should not just do speedy trials of these mufsideen but also hang those who support them, financially or otherwise.

as they say: do mullaon main murghi haraam

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

Atleast the government could try and armtwist the ulema into doing this. The longer the hatred runs it would be difficult to return to a situation of normalcy. I was reading the other thread where you were trying to argue with one of the posters. It seems that the rot has already set and if some serious action is not taken immediately, I do not know the ramifications.

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

this isnt a sectarian issue, this is not about Shia vs Sunnis.. this is about this third group who desperately want to create division among shia/sunnis... but they have failed miserbly, as Sunnis stand with Shias in their stand against these monsters... sit-in taking place across pakistan have not only Shias, there are christians/hindus/sunnis sitting with shia brothers asking for RIGHT TO LIVE!!

without the sincere "will" on part of govt/security agencies/political parties we cannot get rid of these monsters... its not like they are incapable of taking action against these banned outfit, sadly, there are sections in the govt/security agencies who are in sympathy with these groups... for their own political gains, they are allowing them to take innocent precious lives... what can be possibly more sickening than this!

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

A government with strong will is required to do these things. The present regime has just plundered, and deteriorated the law and order situation. Let the 'revenge' end next month, hopefully the situation will improve with the passage of time (under a new government).

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

There is no need to finish theological differences between shias and sunnis. The day we will realize that they are different in their ideologies.. it will be better for us..

We have to accept the differences and discuss the way to co exist here..

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

I always condemn brutal acts with Shias but I am afraid now
I remember this sort of Dhrana in early 80s in Karachi , Demands were approved , After short time another in Islamabad . Demands were approved but soon after those A Shia Sunni right in Karachi took many lives and a big loss of property .
I am afraid , Earlier all Sympathies were with Shias but People are now becoming annoyed . Any enemy can take advantage of it .

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

^ annoyed because of what?

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

The step that can be taken to end civil strife is to end army/ISI entanglement with jihadi elements & to go after them w/o mercy. Nothing will change until that happens.

Re: Steps to end the sectarian strife in Pakistan...

I agree, a lot of work has to be done within establishment/army before any step can be taken to eliminate hatred or food for monsters.
