If my hubby to be would bring a nice amount of money home then i would rather stay home, raise our kids and spend all of his money on shopping :D.

i've been home for da past 2 yrs taking care of my son and recently got a job offer. been thinking hard to accept da offer or not.... love staying at home with my son but at da same time missed working :D
anyways i've decided to turn da offer down for now... family comes 1st :D

[stay at home ,take care of kids till they are not going to school and after that if u get time no problem with having a career.

I wish I could go back to work again but it just doesn't seem possible right now because my lil toddler completely clings to me at all times so i don't know how I'll go back to work again.
I was hoping to take some courses too to keep myself current but even with that I can only do any real work after the baby sleeps at night around 10pm.
I always wonder what other new mothers are doing about such things

I read the question wrong.
All I meant by both was that I would have a child and pursue my career as I do think it's possible to do both.
I would probably stay home the first year. After that, I would like to return to pursue my career.

BS, dunno what kinds of guys you have met. I am a new dad, but try to spend time with the kids before going to work. help feed them dinner when cme back, change them, play with them, read to them etc etc.
Stay at home moms make it sound like they are on the go 24/7, which is not the case. You can do your own thing when the kid is nappping, playing etc.
I have said it before and will say it again, the sheer number of ill mannered, misbehaving, filthy, poorly dresed, unkempt desi brats that i see in malls, at events and in public, suggest that a stay at home mom is not always a good mom.
Its not just how much time one has with the kid, but what one does in that time also. Kid sitting on the floor chewing on a sandal, while mum is on the phone gossiping with her friends is not quite quality care.

yet society praises such on the phone gossiping stay at home mums with being the perfect morally correct mothers
whereas those who manage to have careers as well as a family are considered the bad parents.
go figure.
Forget that talk bout Single mother working a full time job with the cleanest house and the best mannered and dressed kids with excellent school reports.

My sister's life was saved by a surgoen who had little kids but decided that she could have them spend the day in day care and spend her time performing life saving surgeries.
I dont think there are many women who 'want' to leave their kids with baby sitters, some have to do it for economic reasons, some have to do it for professional reasons and they all struggle to maintain a balance between home and work.
I think your statement is backwards though, its the stay at home mums who in general feel that they are better person and better mums because they chose to stay at home. This is evident in other discussions that have taken place on this site, and general sentiment in the desi society.
btw, some of teh day care centers or day care providers are trained in topics such as developmental activities, CPR, hygiene and health, and the ability of the child t interact with other kids in a learning atmosphere can be excellent. I dont think that an avg run of the mill BA (hons) pass imported wife from Pakistan who stays at home and takes care of the kids has the background, nor the training to do well in this area.

but the problem is that sucess is most likely with caring parents spending time at home wth their children, no matter how many good single mothers are out there....there are more young criminals and drug addicts from single moms than from parents spending more time at home

What do you say to mothers working to support their families and provide a better future for their kids. They do not have the luxury to not work, or have a motivation to be able to provide the best education and opportunities for their kids.
If someone could work part time to keep their skills sharp and career active, without having an impact t their finances, forget women, many men would spend more time with their kids.

as my son was born i stopped working,, i will start again when he will be older but i think that specially in the first year one of the parents shuld be with the child... but as said b4 its a personal decision....

if you take the single mothers example out and just factor in kids with moms at home versus kids wit working moms the jury is still out. The avg chichora in pakistan has a stay at home mom, the average failure in pakistan has a stay at home mom.
Spending time is important but its not just quantity of time but also the quality of time. When I see kids without any real developmental programs, who bathe once a week, are sittign around like zombies in front of TV in filthy clothes, I seriously doubt the quality of care their stay at home mom is providing them. is she taking them out on field trips or to the park to play with other kids.
If stay at home moms realize that they need to treat their stay at home status as a job and that the time is about the kids and not about them, their social life, gossping, sleeping in and all that, then yes it will make a difference.

what about girls that get degrees in ridiculous fields like "psychology" or "english literature" and dont want to get off their butts and GET A JOB because once they get married, they are supposed to be treated like princesses and be showered in shopping money?
