Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

My friend’s son at the age of 6 is having his Ameen. Masha’Allah. I was surprised because my 4 year old just started Qaeda.

So at what ages did you start teaching them to read Quran and at what age did they finish for the first time?

Honestly - I started at the age of 8 and finished by 10. Has anyone used the online Quran tutors for kids?

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

Aameen is the start of Noorani Qaaedaa or actual Quran?

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

*Is AMEEN the completion of nazira once?
If yes then its gr8....
i was lil bit late in completing nazira.... *

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

OMG - I had this exact discussion with my husband and he got all pissy saying that I didn't know what I was talking about.

The invite says Ameen in title but it also says Khatum-ul-Quran. I am confused.

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

Mines will be 4 in 4 months and she started the qaida, she is still in the first page. I wrote about this a few days ago, we are doing online teaching and its working great.

It took a few days for my daugther to get used to the idea but now she knows what to do, but for such a small child its hard to get them to concentrate ... so u need lots of patience.

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

My neighbir uses online tutoring and they love it.
I dont think there is an age - whenever the child is ready :)

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

I started at 5 and was done reading the Quran when i was 7 -

Isnt Ameen done after u finish the Quran for the first time or when you have finish Hifz of the Quran.. my khalo's nephew just had his Ameen after he finished Hifz of the Quran..

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

**There are two types of AMEEN....

  1. When complete nazira 1st tym...
  2. When complete hifzing the Whole QURAN...** ** Both are literally called AMEEN..**

that is so confuisng. I am sending this to my hubby. I'll do anything to win a argument :)

:smack: I am so dumbo .,., off course Aameen is the end of Quran, the start of Quran ceremony is called “bismillah” ceremony

thanks Mysti

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

Every kid is different. It depends on how well he/she can grasp the alphabets and different sounds. Also it depends on how patient & experienced the teacher/tutor is. Kids who go to Qari Sahib or Qari Sahib comes home, or their stay-home parent/grad parent teaches them often finish at an early age (5-7 years), others sometime before the teen. I think I finished mine much later.

Unfortunately, a lot of time, Quran reading and more importantly learning & reflecting stops after Ameen. It shouldn't.

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

I started at 5 and finished at 5 and a half. My cousin actually finished at 4 and a half. Sounds crazy now.

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

We think that we should start a child when they can speak...but there's a difference between speaking and learning so don't be in a hurry. Just be steady and consistent so the foundation is strong.

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

traditionally you don't teach reading and writing before the age of 6 or 7......the concentration should be on memorization of Quran in these years.

i sing Alif ba song to my kids and just started teaching basic vowels to my 5 years old because he was taking interest in reading. but formally i'm not planning to teach them before the age of 6.

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

i started at 4 and i was done whn i was 7

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

I finished at 7 too :vivo:

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

My eldest nephew completed Hifz at the age of 6; he had a Qari Sahib coming to his house for tuition...

My eldest daughter finished Quran at 6, younger one is still reading.

Most importantly, the focus should be put on them actually understanding and reflecting on what they are learning, rather than racing to the finish line and them not understanding a word of what they have learnt. I finished reading the Quran at 6, but with the mosque i went to, it was a case of "now you've finished reading, you can leave". Truthfully, i never understood a word of what i had learned....and didn't delve back into studying Islam until my late 20's :(

Kids are like sponges at this age, so we extended our children's learning with additional Islamic Studies lessons, and that's what we focus on with our girls.

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

Ideally I would love to take the classes with my girls. I could really use a refresher course. The surah that I have memorized - those ones I read fairly quickly but my speed is pretty slow.

*Nikisk and Maroush - when you go over the meaning with your girls do you just read the translation at the bottom or do you have a book or something that makes the concepts easy to understand? *

Re: Starting and Finishing the Quran at what age?

I agree with Maroush. Pakistani parents often rush their children to "finish" reading the Quran at such a young age. The result is that the child ends up not only not knowing how to correctly recite the Quran (with the correct tajweed), but also not knowing or understanding a single word of what Allah is even telling us in the Quran. When I have kids inshallah, I dont care how long it takes them to "finish" the Quran for the first time, as long as they are reciting with proper tajweed and are understanding the meaning and tafseer of what they are reading. Better to read two ayahs everyday and then discuss what it means and how to apply in our lives than to read 3 pages each day without it having any impact on you

You can go through a tafseer book with them as well. Something liek Ibn Kathir's tafseer is very basic and simple to understand and you can cater it to the needs and age of your child, what they are ready for, just take a few stories or lessons to share and as they grow older you can move to more detailed tafseer. Also there are alot of Islamic story books called like Quran Stories for Little Hearts, or something like that
