stories from Quran and from the life of the Prophets and sahaba are a good way to teach kids about islam but learning tafseer[that includes study of ahadith and background of ayat] is only for kids above the age of 7 imho who need to learn fiqh issues.
We read Quran for the purpose of ibadah and not to take out rulings from it.
