Sri Lankan cricket team attacked in Lahore.

Re: Sri Lankan cricket team attacked in Lahore.

^yeah yeah, just like Antulay in India was saying its conspiracy of Indian secret agencies.

Re: Sri Lankan cricket team attacked in Lahore.

i wounder No one Pakistani official resign yet.Atleast Rehman Malik/Ijaz Butt should GO.

Re: Sri Lankan cricket team attacked in Lahore.

Regardless of what Broad or anybody else is saying , something clearly does not add up.....

How can 12 people freely "amble" away from a well-populated city location after engaging in gunfire for more than 20 minutes with Pakistan's so-called "elite" security team ?

Yeah sure, they were sitting ducks, the attackers fled when they saw sitting ducks, the ducks then crawled to the stadium to safety. Such honesty.

Wouldn' "drama" show an Indian ID, dialing an Indian number etc? Or did you just come out of a cave today?

Re: Sri Lankan cricket team attacked in Lahore.

what does this have to do with Indian ID, Indian number etc, captain1?

can you explain where this CCTV is at?

and why is this street that deserves a CCTV cam have NOBODY at 9 am on a weekday?

Don't understand your logic or the intended sarcasm.

Didn't the driver of the van die ? Is it far fetched to think that Broad or Taufel or anybody else in the van could have met a similar fate. Also, from what I have been reading, if the SL team bus had not pulled away and certain other things not occur , there could have been major casualties in the SL team bus. So what's wrong with the "sitting ducks" statement.

Who sticks around outside after a 15-25 minute gun battle? Or is this video of before the attack?

BBC NEWS | South Asia | CCTV ‘shows Lahore gunmen escape’

More on the same from BBC … of course if you have Geo on your TV you can get more input …

Aaj and Geo reporting 3 suspects in custody, two with Nigerian papers.

[joke]
LOL... in Pakistan, like in America, police grab the black suspects first.
[/joke]

I read an article where people suggested that Pakistan did this drama to show to India that we are suffering from the same (Mumbai), so if govt was doing it they could've easily put Indian ID/number in the evidence.

I am not from Lahore so I can't say where the CCTV is located, the video is released by Geo, I don't think the CCTV was put in place by govt agency. I believe there are many more cameras in Lahore, some I think broadcast to some websites live, or atleast there was some project in past.

If they really were 'sitting ducks' and all police ran away why do you think terrorists who attacked the SL team ran away? Things don't add up.

Nigerian papers don't make them blacks, especially if they are fake.

Response to terrorist attack makes bus driver a hero - CNN.com

From Stan Grant
CNN

LAHORE, Pakistan (CNN) – His job was to drive the bus. But Meher Mohammad Khalil is now being hailed as a lifesaver.

On Wednesday, Meher Mohammad Khalil went back to the place where gunmen attacked his bus.

When gunmen jumped out of bushes and began spraying bullets at the bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team Tuesday, Khalil quickly sized up his options and got everyone to safety.
** “First I thought there were some firecrackers going off. Then, when I saw the elite force cars in front of me taking fire, I immediately lost my voice,” Khalil told CNN on Wednesday.
"At that time, the other elite car that was with us gave me cover, and then, when I saw he was giving me cover, my courage and my patience returned.**
“I decided to take the vehicle from there, and one way or another, even if I had to drive over someone, I would take this bus and escape.”

Khalil returned to the scene of the attack in the Pakistani city of Lahore on Wednesday to honor those who were killed and to place flowers in their memory.
One of the dead was Zafar Khan, a friend and fellow bus driver who had been in a vehicle behind Khalil.
“My eyes filled with tears that these were people that I was eating with and who died in doing their duty.”
Khalil had been part of a convoy heading to Gaddafi Stadium, where the Sri Lankan cricket team was to continue a match against Pakistan](http://topics.cnn.com/topics/Pakistan).

Six police officers were killed, in addition to Khalil’s friend Khan who was driving a bus with the match umpires.

The Sri Lankan](http://topics.cnn.com/topics/sri_lanka) cricketers praised Khalil’s quick thinking and action, saying he saved their lives. Six team members were injured by broken glass and shrapnel.
Team captain Mahela Jayawardene wrote on his Web site of Khalil: “He probably saved our lives, showing remarkable bravery in the face of direct gunfire to keep the bus moving.”
Crowds mobbed Khalil as he paid his respects at the place where his life changed in an instant.
“He is a hero, a real hero, a real man of the people,” a man in the crowd said.
Private donors in Lahore have rewarded Khalil with 300,000 rupees (more than $3,000) – a small fortune for a Pakistani bus driver.

Today, Khalil says all he can feel is pain of the loss of life. And he called on the attackers to recognize that their victims are humans just like them, with mothers and sisters.
“For God’s sake, please stop this terrorism](http://topics.cnn.com/topics/terrorism) and let this nation breathe a sigh of relief,” he said.

The Bus Drove Away and thus they no longer had a target to attack and thus they left

why would they call Indian ID/number when the mumbai terrorists were all from Pakistan?

anyway, this drama is just to show oh we know who the terrorists are, we have them escaping on cam. where is the cam at? why was the cam filming this non-descript alley? how could so many gunmen just stroll out after a shootout with a VVIP motorcade along a police-lined route?

Although the death of the 6 police officers and 2 civilians is most sad, it is clear now from some of the reports that the only thing which saved the Sri Lankan players and Chris Broad & co. was the bravery of the bus driver who just kept going despite the heavy gunfire. Had the bus stopped because of severe damage to the tyres or the driver been hit by one of the first bullets aimed at his head, it would have been curtains for everyone....I believe no one would have come out alive. The terrorists would have carried on spraying bullets from all directions, overwhelmed the bus and van and hijacked or killed everyone (the van driver had already been shot dead).

Once the bus was out of reach of these terrorists, they lost interest as it were and fled the scene....and Broad and co. were saved too. The more you think about this tragedy the more you begin to appreciate how lucky they all were to still be alive....and thank God for that.

They ran away because the bus which was carrying the "primary target" had moved into Gadaffi Stadium !!!!!! ... thanks to some some quick thinking by the driver.

There were about 31 police personal accompanying the bus ... as given in the details .... six of them died ... where did the rest go .... were they not able to "injure" (forget killing) even one of the terrorists ..... hence the doubt's on the police action. Also it seems that Gulburg police station is walking distance from the attack site .... still no reinforcement came to catch the attackers!!!! All this after having prior information that there is going to be an attack on the visiting team !!!!!!

Re: Sri Lankan cricket team attacked in Lahore.

Why is Pak govt. reluctant to take FBI help ? Are they scared that the “truth” will come out ?? Or that with FBI being involved they will not be able to plant evidence of India’s involvement ??

==================================================================

DAWN.COM | Pakistan | FBI chief in Pakistan after attack on cricketers

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Wednesday declined an offer of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to investigate the gory attack on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore that claimed the lives of at least seven people, including six policemen, a well-placed source told Dawn.

Meanwhile, the security agencies have made the headway and got some important leads in investigating the case that confirmed what Pakistan has already said ‘the involvement of external hand’ in the attack, the source said.

The FBI forwarded the offer to Pakistan when its visiting Director Robert Mueller called on President Asif Ali Zardari in a luncheon meeting. The FBI chief also met Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Interior Rehman Malik and Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Tariq Khosa.

**‘The FBI team wanted to visit the site of the attack on Sri Lankans and offer its assistance to join local investigators in the probe,’ a senior security official told Dawn on condition of anonymity.

The official said the Pakistan side asked FBI team that its assistance was not required as the local investigators were capable to unearth the perpetrators and take them to task.**

The source said some of the terrorists who attacked the Sri Lankan team had been arrested and more arrests were also being made on their information.

Interior adviser Rehman Malik, while meeting with the FBI chief, reiterated his stance that the involvement of ‘external’ hand cannot be ruled out in Lahore attack.

The government believed that the Indian intelligence agency was involved in the attack but it (the government) was intentionally keeping mum and avoid accusing India directly unless solid evidences about Indians’ involvement were collected by investigators.

Pakistani side also shared the investigation so far conducted in connection with Mumbai attacks with the FBI delegation and demanded further cooperation from India so that the terrorist network could be destroyed.

The issued of Swat peace deal, that has strongly been opposed by the west, also came under discussion and the government assured that the deal would not facilitate the militants but restore peace in settled areas of the country.

Earlier, President Zardari claimed that perpetrators of heinous terrorist assaults on Sri Lankan Cricket team would be unearthed and dealt with an iron hand.

He also underlined the need that both the brotherly countries of Pakistan and Sri Lanka to jointly devise a mechanism for promotion of peace, development and progress of the region.

No local militant organisation has so far taken responsibility of the deadly attack. Security authorities believe that those involved in the attack were not local terrorists but it might be country with the help of some local groups.

‘The way the terrorists conducted the attack was not the style of local terrorists because they usually do not expose themselves by coming out for shooting and bombing because they have enough number of suicide bombers to hit their targets,’ the security official said.

Meanwhile, President Zardari in his meeting with Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Rohita Bogollagama, suggested that the two countries hold a workshop to learn from each other’s experiences in fighting terrorism with a view of devising a mechanism for enhancing cooperation between them for fighting militancy.

The attack, he said, had once again underlined the fact that terrorism was not confined to any country and was a global problem which needed cooperative international efforts to root it out.
‘The progress has been made in the investigation and the perpetrators will be exposed and brought to justice,’ the president said.
