if yousef is fit for the next test, Afridi should be dropped to accomodate an extra batsmen.

Well, yes, since the subject was brought up, but strictly from the point of view of "one batter" vs. "the second batter".

If we go on to drop Afridi to accomodate Yousuf, where does the "extra" batsman (Yousuf) come into play (since we are removing one instead of adding two)?

I would take Yousef over afridi anyday. In my opinion Yousef is a much better batsmen and I am talking strictly from the point of view of "batting". Playing Faisal and Yousef is better than playing Afridi with one of them dropped, OK maybe I meant a better batsmen and in that sense "extra". You havent replied whether you consder Afridi better than Yousef?
