Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

Hats off to Malik, he surely deserved the MoM award as he also stayed not out till the end. But again thats secondary, great work from our team and it would certainly dent SriLanka’s morale.:alhamd:

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

n y exactly is that? :)

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

wakeup dude. Australia was thrashed all ends up when they visited last under Michael Hussey. Hussey got called to the ODI series around the last ashes in England and before that he could hardly reach double figures in the matches he played. Pakistan defeated Australia in the U19 world cup when it mattered the most, so think before you talk :)

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

You can't always think about winning. Not so long ago in Ashes, don't you remember Australia saving a match from the jaws of defeat. Why didn't they go for a WIN then? :D

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

IMO, Sangakara was rightly given MoM, as his innings was chanceless and he almost won the match for SL. Malik gave away too many chances, dropped on 14 by Sangakara, survived a very confident lbw appeal on 70, and then not given out by Rudi when he edged to wk (all acc. to cricinfo, see below). But anyway, it was a marathon innings by Malik and hats off to him for saving this test match.

“(from cricinfo) Umpire Steve Davis presented him considerable benefit in turning down a strong leg-before shout when the new ball arrived midway through the afternoon, bringing with it another session of Farvez Maharoof’s inquisitive seam bowling. And on 94, twenty minutes after tea, he was incorrectly given not out by Rudi Koertzen when Sangakkara made up for his lapse, off Sanath Jayasuriya. Kumar Sangakkara will remember with some fondness his century on the fourth day but is equally less likely to forget dropping Malik when he was on 14.”

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

who cares about MoM, we somehow saved the match. On to the next one...

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

Should Faisal Iqbal be dropped to accomodate Mohammad Yousuf (provided if he is available for the second test)?

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

Malik proved himself once again :k: Faisal should be given another chance.
I hope Malik continues with his newly discovered openening form and develop more technique to play swing bowling early in the innings. I hope he delivers outside the sub-continent as well.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

This question is similar as was the case with India should they drop Kaif / Laxman (they assumed Y. Singh should fill hte No6 automatically).

I would say if M. Yousef is 100% fit Yes he should replace Faisal Iqbal.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

Afridi should be dropped to accommodate Yousuf. We need to strengthen our batting as a lot of our batsmen are out of form.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

I dis-agree, coz of his recent past performance, and he can be quite handy with the ball.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

That was one of the first things that crossed my mind. Razzaq also came into this picture.

However, if I am not mistaken, the strategy of Bob Woolmer is such that he would rather prefer all-rounders instead of specialists. Yousuf has been scoring very heavily as of late, and I am more keen on having him in the team, but it is also of an immense value to see Faisal Iqbal sitting quietly on the bench and patiently waiting for his turn, while constantly making a name for himself and shining the torch everytime he is included in the squad. His form will be of utmost importance in the upcoming tour to England, as well as future tours and the World Cup. A very elegant replacement is this man, Faisal Iqbal, but I personally would rather witness class over form. A class evolves over time, whileas form is virtually unstable. Any batsman of the world can slump into a series of unhygienic form, but it takes a top class act such as Mohammad Yousuf to bring that back up, from scratch, hence my reason.

Although, yes, once again, Iqbal is a great opportunity for us to make use of and would make our batting very strong (if it is not already is) with his inclusion in the future games.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

The thing with Afridi is, he comes in very handy in the spin department, and has regularly chirped in with a wicket or two in almost every alternate game. If he has the opportunity to score runs, that is simply a huge plus for the team, alongwith the fact that he is currently one of the best fielders on our side (which speaks volumes when it comes to the fielding department --- below-par at best, on certain times of the day).

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

super effort by malik today ...full marks for him !!!

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

In ODIs, you can have as many all rounders as you want, but in tests, you need to have specialist players. One all rounder is enuff for tests, or atmost 2. We are playing with 3 all-rounders which is not good in tests. So we have to drop atleast one of the all-rounders. We already have one leg spinner in Danish, and we can use Malik as 5th bowler, which we didn’t use in the last test.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

Ganja has a point there. I was about to say exactly that.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

As much as that is true, I don't think dropping the player of the calibre of Afridi is even remotely possible.

Re: Sri Lanka VS Pakistan 26th March @ Colombo

That's true and also the fact that all 3 of our allrounders are somewhat performing does not help the cause. I guess our SPECIALISTS need to justify their roles a tad more :)
