:hmmm: Is this why SLC is asking its players to tour Pakistan despite the security concerns ?
World Cup Organising Committee Chief Suraj Dandeniya speaking to The Sunday Leader dismissed allegations that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) was facing bankruptcy. He insisted that once the International Cricket Council (ICC) gives SLC their hosting fees the debts will be repaid.
Suspicions over Sri Lanka Cricket facing a hefty debt were confirmed on Tuesday by Sports Minister, Mahindananda Aluthgamage. Reports emerged that SLC was facing debts amounting to US$ 23 million.
Aluthgamage explained that the construction of new stadiums for the World Cup have left Sri Lanka Cricket with a Rs. 2.5 billion deficit. The construction of two new stadiums at Hambantota and Pallekele along with reconstruction of the Premadasa Stadium saw total expenses skyrocket to $ 45 million.
Furthermore, the governing body was forced to pledge the new stadiums, **along with funds raised from upcoming tours as collateral to pay for the extravagant tournament.
**Aluthgamage, speaking to the media, expressed his confidence that despite the heavy debt there was no cause to panic. ‘Building new stadiums cost lots of money. You must look at it as an investment for the future development of the game.’ He explained that $45 million was spent on the construction of the three new stadiums.
SLC Treasurer, Sujeewa Rajapaksa explained that during the tournament the Board was forced to take a $ 21.5 million loan from the Bank of Ceylon and a further $ 3.5 million loan from the International Cricket Council. However, in return the ICC still has to pay SLC $ 25 million for having hosted the matches during the tournament. Rajapaksa assured the public that once these funds are received they will be able to repay the debts facing the SLC.
The Sunday Leader spoke to Suraj Dandeniya prior to this announcement about speculation surrounding the possibility of SLC facing bankruptcy. He explained that with all major tournaments immediately afterwards it would appear that there is a massive debt. However, once the total profits for the tournament are received by the SLC there will be no further debt. He assured The Sunday Leader that the tournament remained within the original budget.
The growing debt is just another crisis to hit Sri Lanka Cricket, as the team continues to await the appointment of a new captain, vice-captain and coach

if we go by your logic, BCCI or in fact Indian Govt is also about to bankrupt eh? after all, every 2nd day some Indian minister etc is saying that we will soon send a team to Pakistan :)

*Decent bhai, *pls read the article ;) SLC is planning to use funds raised from "upcoming tours" to pay for the WC exps, which is what makes me wonder if thats why its willing to risk the players safey rather than give up on a lucrative money making tour.
I do not need to re-iterate here that BCCI is quite flush with cash and does not need a tour of Pak to meet its exps. Infact BCCI officials have hinted that the tour may not happen in the near future due to packed calendars.
Exactly !! And after the experience last time, no one in their right minds would like to risk their lives again. Hence the original question...
Even after last time's attack SL didn't say they will never come back, so the question you are raising doesn't hold much weight other than happiness over others' misery.

people prefer dying from bullet than dying from hunger.
they created something for future but they forgot secure their present. besides the kind of cheap material is used in construction in subcontinent i doubt their will be any stadium left for the future. i remember watching new report on the cheap material indian used for common wealth games.
Read my comments, I didn't say anything about players.
Then we are talking about two different things. My point was about the SLC wanting to go back because its monetarily lucrative. The underlying assumption here is that SLC wants to go back but the players aren't eager to go back.
We never said we would not play in Pak coz of what happened last time....We went there, and will still go there coz we know how it feels to have bombs going off left right and center....we are all quite used to having threats made on us...we even had bomb threats in for all the schools in colombo, and one did blow just outside a school gate...life never stopped just coz of that..we didn't sit mourn about it for months...we got on with our lives..coz it is something normal...same thing here...just coz they were attacked once doesn't mean that they will not participate again.

Who is "we" ? SLC, Sri Lankan players or you ?
Neither you nor SLC officials were in the line of fire last time. Has anyone asked the players if they want to go ?

and YOU did????
I am talking on behalf of Sri Lankans....Sri Lankan cricket tema represents Sri Lanka...us as fans do you think we are protesting on them going to Pak? I may not have been on the line of fire..but I have seen my own father being taken away in the middle of the night when SL was going through a load of crap. I have also seen ppl who were burnt alive..and their bodies were still burning with tires around them..so yeaa..we have seen quite a lot...but it is not going to stop us from doing what we want to do, or stop us from going where we want to go!
