Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
f&b - Yeah Monty may have impressed you but I have very little confidence in left arm spinners. They lack variety. I would still rate Afridi higher than Monty. You may have a point on Malik.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
Yep... He is best spinner that England had for a long time. I hope they work on his fielding and batting and dont punish him because of it.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
Although I hate so say but Mushtaq Ahmed and Saqlain Mushtaq are history as far as national side is concerned. Playing on the internatinal level and in county circuit are two diferent things. Having said that Mushtaq even he was picked up wouldnt have got the match to play and therefore no use.
Waiting to see Asif and Rana perform in the tour. Hopefully Sami also do something (just a wish)

Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
FG, I do not agree that we don't need two leggies. Why not?? If both of them can take wickets than why should they not be considered. Mushtaq has consistently outperformed any other spinner on the county circuit for the past two years and it is on these same grounds where he is performing that we are going to face England. So, why not. Lets not stick to norms.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
ehsan bhai, If you can guarantee me that leggies will get us wickets, I will opt for 4 leggies in one match. But the fact is that it's never known. You cna include one leggie and he can do the job of two if he is really good. It's not as if he will get tired after bowling 8 overs (like fasties)...a spinner can bowl 20 overs on the trot...the job of two bowlers.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
No one can guarantee that anyone can perform but I am sure that his inclusion in the squad would have been enough to have a few worried faces in the English dressing room.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
Totally... He has been doing EXCEPTIONALLY well in county cricket and we should remember the fact that the wickets that he has taken include the numerous wickets of the guys with international experience. He deserved to be in the side more than anyone else :)
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
Exceptionally well? Just last week, half ass discarded England cricketers such as Ovais Shah scored a century while Mushy kept bowling over worse cricketers than ones who play in Sargodha Division II team from the other end. Come'on let's not get carried away with what Mushy does on the county circuit against lalloo panjoos.
I agree that he was a world class bowler at one time. How good is he now? I ain't so sure.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
Excellent selection. For once I have no complaint with the selction of the team. All you guys are thanking the selection team for not selecting Rao...Im happier they didnt select chacha Arshad Khan. Now who needs Kaneria or Mushtaq if he's there?? ;) :D
On a serious note...Gul will be a handful in the english conditions...mark my words. He looks ordinary on flat pitches but where the ball swings...he's unplayable. I've also seen Shahid Nazir bowling and he's also a very good bowler in favorable conditions. I would love to see a pace attack of Asif, Gul, and Rana. And if you add Nazir/Razzaq to that with Kaneria and Afridi...it looks even better. As much as you guys want Sami to play...Im telling you right now...he aint gonna do nothing in this tour either. He just doesnt have the temperment to be a good bowler. In conditions like England...you just bowl in a tigh line and length and you will get wickets...but Sami cannot bowl 2 balls in the same line and length but what he can do is stare you down after every ball even if you hit him for a 6.
Now I dont wanna start an arguement with Sami fans here...but I everyone has the right to their opinion. In my opinion we need bowlers with good control and ability to swing rather than bowlers who try to go for pace, eg, Sami, Arafat. Akhtar is a different case, as he has the ability to swing the ball while having the pace.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
^ Well than why aren't other bowlers excelling against these lalloo, panjoos, why only Mushtaq. He is bowling to the same lallos to which all the other bowlers including some world class bowlers and spinners are bowling to. Just for the record he has played in 8 county matches this season and has taken 51 wickets at an average of 16.54. On 6 occasions he took 5 or more wickets. That is exceptionally good bowling even if it is to laloos. We are after all going to be bowling to these same lalloos in the test matches. Let get some perspective.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
Glad Rao is not in the squad. What I remember of Shahid Nazir was that he had a nice and smooth action and lot of potential and did reasonably well on his previous tour of England.
I was surprised that he has not been a regular in the squad, maybe was due to form or the selectors being inconsistent. However, I hope he does well and is definetely better then Rao and Gul.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
51 divided by 8 is approx 6 per match. Now that's against laloo panjoos. So let's say he will be half as good against England. That puts him at 3 wickets per match. Aaaah...let's see....hmmmmmm...I will stick with other options.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
^ Well in that case we should not be playing Rana Naveed or Asif against England because their record is much worse than Mushtaq's bowling to these same laloos. Hmmmm, I wonder who should we play than.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
lol - You see both Rana and Asif have other recent performances to go by against this opposition. So, they make the cut based on that. I thought you are the one who mentioned his 'exceptionally well' performance in County.
Also keep in mind, Asif is new in County and also I would question his motivation and the amount of effort he puts in while not playing for the national team whereas Mushy's livelihood depends on County.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
For example?
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
so you want Mushy in place of Asif? chal bhaag jaa.
Re: Squad for Pakistan team tour to England
I think both Rana and Asif are bowlers of the highest quality. You said "51 divided by 8 is approx 6 per match. Now that's against laloo panjoos. So let's say he will be half as good against England. That puts him at 3 wickets per match. Aaaah...let's see....hmmmmmm...I will stick with other options." Well Rana and Asif are bowling to the same laloos. If that is your criteria than surely you cant justify the inclusion of Rana and Asif either. Just wanted to show that your criteria was wrong.
lets say we agree to disagree.
