Sports Nutrition................

So the province gave us a sports nutritionist to prepare athletes for Canada games, it was awesome as it was noone else but our dear friend Sarah whose kids paddled with our kids and are Olympic hopefuls. Sarah was saying that her son Robin was eating 5000cal a day and still losing weight so she had to up his diet to 8000cal a day. I had a bit of argument with Safy before the meeting with nutritionist as he is very casual about eating enough food, I told him that eating is work for him if he is serious about competing. So we tried one of the recipes of energy balls but had to change a bit and not use almonds. These would be awesome for Ramadan.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

So I want to discuss nutrition and performance nutrition here. Sarah was saying that people getting proper nutrition dont get sick that often and don’t get injured that often, I put Chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, dates, lemon juice, flax seeds, coconuts etc in the energy balls. Chia seeds are tukma ballanga we used in faloodas back home and is a must to eat regularly for omega 3s and gut health

Re: Sports Nutrition…

Do you fast ?
You do not seem interested in religion.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

My boys are thinking of fasting this year, I am not sure if I will. You are right I am secular but respect peoples right to follow their faith if the respect my right to follow my beliefs.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

I am not secular and i have not left a single Roza since 2007, but I totally agree that people should be free to choose anything they like. We all have our own values and beliefs that we develope slowly and gradually. Our friends, community and the experiences we have during the course of life , all contribute to our sense of who we are and how we view the world.. So we should not force our beliefs on anyone.. Live and let live.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

Good on you, I am a believer of freedom of faith and all faiths should be respected and people should not be discriminated based on religion.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

Are you sure tuqmbalanga is chia and not basil seed? I thought tuqmbalanga was basil.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

We use chia seeds all the time, some times i put it in almond milk, sometimes in roohafza and milk. It does expand and become gelatinous. nutritionists are going crazy for it. I just put in juice last night. try using in juice, cereal, water, milk etc. The soluble fiber is a great thing.

here from the web Missy

Tukhm Balanga (also know as chia seeds in English and written tukh malanga as well) is simply a healthy gift from nature. Read its benefits in Urdu below.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

When your 10K time is 57 mins, no sports nutrition can help you. Get in decent CV shape first instead of chugging down 8K cal/day. Increase training volume, burn off that fat belly. :flowers:

Re: Sports Nutrition…

You can also add vegan protein shakes to his diet. There are many of them available online and in health food stores. One good brand is Garden of Life vegan protein shake. Its plant based protein shake. It has seeds and nuts and raw sprouts, it has probiotics and antioxidents.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

That time for a 14 yr old was pretty damn good in a blizzard can anyone in your close circles even run a mile. He took 3rd position in under 19. And again runni9ng is not even his sport. He is a Kayaker.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

My eldest is allergic to nuts and that presents a problem. I had gotten him pea protein but that made him gassy. Hemp protein he didnt like. Many plant proteins dont have as much Lucien which is critical after work out. He is okay with pumpkin seeds which have a ton of protein. I haven’t sprouted Mung Beans, I should. Starting July they will be on water all day so we need to pack them suitcase full of food.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

A non-running but fit 14 year old will not take more than 40 minutes to run a 10K, especially if the weather is cold and not hot. Sorry, brah. This is an unfit fatty.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

You are not serious, 4 min a kilometer for 10k? that is at a pace of 15km an hour. I think Safy would have done 48 mins.. Jeremy is insanely fit 17 yr old and he did 51 mins.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

I guess your idea of “fit” is more the desi idea of “healthy”.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

There wasn’t a single desi at the race and how do you get a bronze medal competing against. 19,18,17 year olds and how do you get selected in the provincial teams and how did Safy qualify to be in nationals. A lot more than just healthy. Province gives them mental trainers, sports nutritionists and pays the coach. Province also paid 80 percent of the cost for Florida training camp and next year they might have a training camp in Portugal for 5 weeks. I dont have Olympic aspirations as it is not worth it.

Re: Sports Nutrition…

maybe there were only two guys in this race and this obese person you like came in a very slow third at 57 minutes. that is the only possible explanation. :flowers:

Re: Sports Nutrition…

Booby bhaijan, im glad you are getting some muscles due to your “world famous” sports nutrition other than “world famous” nihari. But why is yr son so skinny?

Uncle is jacked. I made them super smoothie this morning, apple, banana, blue berries, flax meal. Chia seeds, pumpkin seeds, yogurt and milk. Eldest needs 5000 Cal a day. I told him to eat every 3 hours. I am going broke feeding them. I will cook big Nihari tonight, bones, tendons and all. It produces gelatinous collagen.
