Speeding ticket

Re: Speeding ticket

I'm not worried about the money. I really don't want 2 points on my record. Someone just pm'ed me and advised to hire a lawyer. How does that sound? pretty convincing to me~

Re: Speeding ticket

Dont contest it. You will have to pay even more than $275, because the judge will tack on court costs as well. However, you can, and should plead it out. Go to the court on the appointed date, and talk to the prosecutor before the trial (which they encourage you to do). If the prosecutor is convinced of your version, at the very least, he/she will reduce your speed to 75 from 85. That will bring down your fine at the very least, and may even cancel out your points, if hes in a good mood. So pleading is the best case scenario.

Re: Speeding ticket

play the race card. say the cop pulled u over cuz u is black

Re: Speeding ticket

Lussi, what is up with the ebonics?

Er, what’s the dilliyo?

Re: Speeding ticket

If you are going to court to plead your case, please change your story. I don't think you need to accelerate 35 mph to overtake a car.

Re: Speeding ticket

I am not sure where you are (what does BK means....?). Anyway, if you are in US, in addition to Akif's suggestion (he sounds like 'been there done that' :-D), a couple of suggestions. Most states (if not all) have defensive driving course that you can take. For example you can take it once every 18 months, and it ensures you don't get points on your record for the first offence.

Secondly, and this is fairly cheeky, and not guaranteed to work, whatever the fine is, send them a check for 2-3 dollars more (so, for example, send them a check for $278). What they typically do is to deposit your check and then send you a refund check for 3 bucks. Don't cash that refund check. Sounds stupid, but until you cash the check, your case file can not be closed and hence the offence is not transferred to your records. I know, it sounds rediculous, but I have people swear first hand that it works. No harm in trying though. It only costs 3 bucks. And if it means savings in your next insurance bill, its probably worth it.

Good luck.

Re: Speeding ticket

girl dis here iz how ah speak

Re: Speeding ticket

welcome to the club, pay the fine, take the traffic class, and move on
at least your traffic record may stay clean
:p

Re: Speeding ticket

^ either pay fine or take class. Both can't happen at the same time.

Re: Speeding ticket

275 bucks?

That’s a lot.

85 mph = 136 kmph :rotfl: In America you get fined for that? :rotfl: This is my speed when I’m driving “veeeeery carefully and slowly”.

Re: Speeding ticket

:bummer:

No Agent. if you take the classes, the points are shaved off, but you still have to pay the fine.

Umer, thats $275 for doing 85mph. If you are caught doing 86, the fine goes up even further:)

Re: Speeding ticket

Ok we know that we don’t have AutoBahn here in US. So it doesn’t mean that you have to show off.

Re: Speeding ticket

Akif when you take class you don’t have to pay fine but you to pay the court fee, which is around $90 where I live. It is not considered as fine.

Re: Speeding ticket

It may be true but you still have to lie on your insurance forms where it asks if you have gotten any traffic violations in the past year or so.

Re: Speeding ticket

Insurance gets info on your records from DMV. Most insurance don't ask you to swear under oath things they can get from DMV anyway. Its a waste. If quizzed later, you can always say "I don't remember".

Anyway, Agent Smith... taking the driving class does not waive off the fine. I don't think you pay court fee if you are not contesting. So essentially if you don't contest, you pay the fine, and you pay the extra for the driving class. Atleast this is how it is in California. Not sure about the state you are in.

Re: Speeding ticket

^ Not in my state. My fine was $170 something for speeding 85 in 70 mph zone. But I had to pay only $90 court fee plus $40 for DD class at Johnny Carinos with meal. mmmmm yummy. I guess it all depends on different State laws.

Re: Speeding ticket

pay the fine and live with the points. Why get a lawyer when its a no win situation.

Re: Speeding ticket

fight for the points since they are gonna be on ur record forever..They might reduce the fine too since its your first ticket. but def go to the court and appeal. Its worth it not for the money but for not getting any points. I got two speeding tickets, one in a construction zone but no points :D alhumdullilah

Re: Speeding ticket

I don't think the points stay on forever either... but again it proly depends on where mahnoor lives.

Re: Speeding ticket

oh but still shes better off not having em..n it only takes like an hour at the court..i am just saying its worth it..
