Re: Special things to shop in USA
perfumes/cosmetics stuff like that.
in household, people usually go for candles, cushions/covers decorative items like crystals.
it all depends of whats of interest to you.
if you need guidance in what to get from where deal/price wise, pm me and i can help.
Re: Special things to shop in USA
Well, what are items that you cannot find or are very expensive where you live? What are your interests and likes? It's kind of hard to advise you on what to purchase without knowing what you are in need of and how much room you have in your baggage.
If you're in to makeup, definitely stock up on brands that you cannot get overseas or are more expensive there like MAC, NARS, MUFE, Bobbie Brown etc...Sephora is the best place to go to get brands you might not find overseas
I disagree on candles/cushions/ decorative items, these items are bulky and frankly, there really isn't anything in San Antonio that you can't find anywhere else. For household things, I would concentrate on kitchen gadgets you might not find in your country (like specialty vegetable peelers, microplane graters, good set of knives etc)
Re: Special things to shop in USA
Go to stores like Bed, Bath & Beyond, Kohl's, Super Target or HomeGoods, and go through the kitchen/ housewares sections...you'll find all sorts of specialty items.
If budget is not an issue, then more pricier stores like Crate N Barrel, Williams Sonoma or Pottery Barn are amazing.
Re: Special things to shop in USA
Budget is not much issue n im interested in household things
Special things to shop in USA
Can you elaborate a little more? You keep saying household things, but what type of household things? And what do you mean by "special things"?
Re: Special things to shop in USA
I would have gone crazy at ikea. Other home stores are good too. Depending on where you are based you could get bakeware cupcake wrappers, cake decor stuff. I would also splurge on those 800-1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets.
Also check out world market, I just love that store. They had those little bird houses that were so cute, candles, etc.

I love world market too! And pier 1 imports. There is not an Ikea in San Antonio unfortunately...only Houston, Dallas & Austin
Re: Special things to shop in USA
I'm browsing through the world market website right now and just drooling over the stuff!! Barely get any stuff like that in Pakistan :(
Really?!? Most of their decor items say Made In Pakistan or Made in India or Bangladesh ![]()
What items are you liking that you can’t find in Pakistan?
Re: Special things to shop in USA
The only thing I like about US is Magnolia Bakery. Luckily, we have one in Qatar.
I’ve heard they are famous for their steakhouses.
I know my post is not very helpful. Sorry :flower:
Re: Special things to shop in USA
By household things i mean any novelty items for kitchen, bathrooms or anything that can be special. Anyways I would be gping to Bed, Bath and Beyond insha'Allah and will see what would attract me. Ikea is in Australia too, the only thing good in Ikea in US is that things are really cheap here as compared to Australia and thats why im interested to have some household items as US is a bit less expensive that AUS.

Re: Special things to shop in USA
I was thinking there must be at least a TJ Maxx in San Antonio.
And sure enough, more than one are located there. You may want to check that out. TJ Maxx stores carry household stuff and a lot of other stuff too at very reasonable prices. Plus, they also have merchandise from great brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, and even Ralph Lauren dress shirts and polos etc. Great for gifts!
If you are interested in menswear for gifts etc., I would recommend Brooks Brothersand Ralph Lauren. You can shop online from their websites. The prices are on the higher end of the spectrum but these are iconic American brands with excellent quality. Ralph Lauren, of course, is also available in a lot of other countries but I know prices in the US are cheaper than at least in the UK.
Also, check out the Sale section in particular of the Calvin Kleinwebsite. If you decide to buy something, don’t forget to use the promotion code FFJUNE2013 to get an additional 30% off!
Finally, Macy’s is the department store that is on the shopping checklist of many tourists to the US, even if just for window-shopping. You might have already been there if you went to a mall. If not, browse through its website to see if you like something, and if you do, you can go buy that in person from one of the Macy’s located in San Antonio

I know that friends from UK love to buy clothing and ESP. Children's clothing. It's summer season now so you will be able to great deals on clothing and for spring and summer. Do check out clearance section. Also have a calculator handy for conversations. As far as household stuff check out stores like tj maxx, Marshall's, and Ross. Not sure what kind of discount stores they have on the west coast. Be wary if prices. If it is the same price as Australia there is no point in lugging stuff. Have a list if things in mind and then shop. As long as you are away from tourist attractions and shop where the locals shop you can get great deals. Do check out clearance sections in the all stores . From overseas ppl usually love the brand name makeup and sneakers etc. again try to shop clearance or outlets. You should know the base price first though .
