Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
TRUE…Hindi Script is borrowed from Urdu ![]()
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
^ Borrowed? I think you mean Stolen! Just ask Diwana, he knows.
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
Thanks for this information. It was not a language just a dilect or boli. That is why it is called ‘boli’.
My point is that Indians could jave just called this language “Urdu” especially after it being so reformed and extensively used in not only the subcontinent but in a major part of the world, but they deliberately did not.
Hindi in essence is merely the political word for Urdu. And “Hindi Movies” should be called Urdu movies.
If one add a little Sanskrit to Urdu, it is called Hindi, that’s all. ![]()
Here we can see how ‘Hindi’ in 1950 was adapted as official language of India.
:hehe:
The trick has worked on a lot of people. ![]()

IDK just look at the chart!! It’s on the internet so it’s got to be right!
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
Inferiority complex much? When we grew up, we also watched western movies/ tv shows where people spoke a different language and did “scandalous” stuff like kissing and dating onscreen. Doesn’t mean that we all emulated that. Explaining rationally why such and such is not a part of your culture is the way to go. Overreaction smacks inferiority complex. If you are that worried about "foreign influences " they why allow those shows into your home?
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
True.
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
Don’t want to offend any Hindu brothers here, but you folks have statues of bare breasted women on some of your places of worship. And don’t even get me started on the “Nanga Babas”. So ofcourse you are more chill with the scandalous things that people do in westen movies etc..

Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
This does have a smack of truth in it. ![]()
Urdu script is borrowed from Arabic, which is one of many Semitic scripts.
From those Semitic scripts other scripts like Roman, Greek and Devanagari (“Hindi”) were borrowed.
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
The chart itself does not prove much.
The fact remains: What people call Hindi is in essence Urdu.
Not a single word in so called Hindi movies can be denied as being Urdu word. Urdu enjoys long life and Hindi with its written script as such adapted by India is new phenomenon.
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
Agree with bold sentence.
But inferiority complex? How?
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
Hindustani…
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
This point is debatable. Devanagari is a child system of nagari script which inturn is a child of Brahmi. The origin Brahmi is still much debated, with current Western academic opinion generally agreeing (with some exceptions) that Brahmi was derived from or at least influenced by one or more contemporary Semitic scripts like Aramic. But there is no conclusive evidence . Aramic is written right to left and brahmi is written left to right.
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
“Iqbal Bara **Updeshak **Hai, **Man **Bato Se **Moh **Leta Hai
Guftar Ka Woh Ghazi To Bana, Kirdar Ka Ghazi Ban Na Saka.”
Pl see bolded words and care to inform me which language did Allama Iqbal use in this beautiful verse?
Seeing some posts in this thread, gave me impression that I m reading from some VHP/RSS portal. These guys speak the same language, dont read urdu, dont speak urdu, this is pakistani, that is islamic.
To hell with linguistic jingoism.
Re: Speaking hindi…good or bad?
It is Urdu. With a couple of words from other language. Still Urdu.
Urdu (lashkari zabaan) boasts being all welcoming language.
What people call Hindi has a little more of Sanskrit (or absolutely no flavor of Sanskrit) but with different script adopted to make it look like a different language that’s all.
Now if Iqbal had used all words from Sanskrit then it would have been called Sanskrit.
Giving Iqbal as example is not so smart. He also did poetry in Farsi. He was NOT just Urdu poet.
And his Farsi poetry is not called Urdu poetry for a reason.
FYI: Correct shayr is..just a minor correction.
Iqbal BaRa Updeshak Hai, Man Baton Mein Moh Leta Hai
Guftar ka Yeh Ghazi To Bana, Kirdaar Ka Ghaazi Ban Na Saka
