Speaker sends references against Imran to Election Commission
**ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly has forwarded the references, filed for seeking disqualification against Tehrik-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan, to the National Election Commission.
Meanwhile, former prime minister and leader of the ruling Muslim league, Mir Zafarullah Jamali said that this is unfair to send the references against Imran Khan to the Election Commission.
The references against Imran Khan seeking his disqualification from the house were filed in the National Assembly by Muttehadda Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the minister for parliamentary affairs, Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi.
These references, based on the Sita White case, were filed to seek Imran’s disqualification from the membership of the national Assembly.
The sources of the NA Speaker’s chambers and Dr. Sher Afgan confirmed to Geo News that the speaker of the National Assembly has sent the references to the National Election Commission under section two of Article 63 of the constitution.
Dr. Sher Afgan Niazi told Arshad Waheed Chaudhry of Geo News that the speaker declared the references in order and now the Election Commission is liable for hearing on them within 90 days.
He said that Imran Khan did not submit his BA Honours degree with his nomination papers during the previous elections and the Election Commission had rejected his papers for not providing the degree till the elections.
Dr. Sher Afgan showed to the Geo News the documents according to which the nomination papers of Imran Khan were rejected.
On the other hand, former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali said while talking to media that if the Karachi people say any thing it is admitted to be correct and if Imran Khan says anything then reference is filed against him.
He said that his government was dismissed on June 24 after the budget and now let us see what happens after the new budget. He said that the situation in the country is not in order.
