Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

inshAllah,

Mid Sept I will be attending my friends wedding in her native hometown of Asturias, Spain (northern most part). Although I will not be spending too much time there, I was still wondering if someone here (other then my friend)is familiar with that area? If so tell me everything you know about it.

After spending a day or two there I will be traveling down to Andalusia and from there I will make my way to Morocco. I will be in southern Spain for 5 days and will fly back home from there.

I traveled to Barcelona a few yrs back so I have some idea of what it is like. However, some parts of Spain may be different.

I’d like to hear from those of you that have been to these parts of Spain and/or Morocco. Any suggestions, advice will be appreciated.

thanks in advance.

Re: Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

Re: Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

how rude. …this is a public forum after all.

Re: Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

Hey AE, I visited a few Andalusian cities last summer in Spain and then took a fairy into the Mediterranean (didn’t get to morroco but went that route anyway).

That entire area is rich in culture - you’ll absolutely love it - make sure you see Alhambra palace, cordoba and real alcazar in Seville. Awesome, awesome places.

Umm, lots and lots of gypsies - we almost got robbed a number of times - keep your wallet and passport near and dear to your heart. Literally.

Spanish men are not afraid to approach pretty girls - beware. Stay safe.

really? when i went to Barcelona… men were so courteous and respectful to me.

Didnt see any gypsies in Barecelona either…maybe they are more prominent in Andalusia? I usually keep my wallet n passport around my neck while traveling overseas…will do the same there. Thanks for the heads up.

will def see those places you have listed. I have heard much about them. Anything else in particular? how about restaurants? hotels? I’m really picky about the hotels I stay in…and in Spain most are crappy n if you stay in 5 star in Spain they costs thousands of dollars. :bummer:

Orphy …where u are u??

why did you decide on a fairy for transportation versus a mermaid?

AE-

where are you planning to go in Morocco? and are you travelling alone?

Re: Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

For flip sake, aren’t you going in September, which is like 3 months away. I’ll post some info. in a day or two.

I’m tired and been worked to the bone of late, can’t a guy get some relax time. :emmy:

I have my own frickin adventure to plan for too, i only have 2 frickin weeks.

havent made any solid plans about Morocco. I figured since I was headed to southern spain I should just check out Morocco as well since it borders it. Most likey Casablanca and Marrakech.

I will be traveling with the bride and groom :D (yes u heard/read that right)
and a few of their closest friends. ....so I will be in good company and not alone.

Have you been that route by any chance? andalucia to Morocco or vice versa?

I like to plan ahead of time…OKAYYYYY

besides i want to book my tickets within the next few weeks.

for morocco you should plan on marrakech, tangier, and fez.
casablanca is the largest city and the comemrcial hub but honestly aside from the hassanII mosque there is not much to see.

a day or so in Rabat would be good, more historical stuff and, Meknes is another day thing, teh roman ruins by it are one thing, moulay dris the oldest mosque in teh area is another, moulay ismail tomb is a major monument, old city gates and walls are also nice.

fez/fes is ahistorical city, has a huge sufi festival, but i think u will miss it timing wise.

but really if u have limited time i would say go to marrakech only

ok great! thats what i was trying to figure out....if there is only one place in morocco that I can see then which place should it be. Marakech it is! any place in particular I should see?

thanks for the reply.

Re: Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

Since you asked me nicely, NOT. I shall answer ya questions as best i can. :D

My knowledge of spain is limited so i shall share some info. on morocco instead.

As X2 said, marrakech is where you want to be, places of interest you may want to check out is:

the huge el-fna square which comprises of souks (markets), its a 6 mile stretch of shops selling everything imaginable, you can literally spend all day their, a heads up; don't accept thier 1st price and be willing to negotiate to get what you want, its the banter they enjoy and they welcome it.

enjoy a camel ride in the atlas mountains, approx 40 mins from marrakesh. when we went, we stayed overnight and watched the sunrise the next morning, really is beautiful.

the saadian tombs, they're 16th century chambers full of colorful tombs, its not a vast place and you should be done in 30 mins, go early thou; as by mid day theirs quite a rush their as it is popular with tourists.

should you want to get away from it all and enjoy some tranquil time, head to the outskirts of marrakesh, take a taxi to palmeraie, its where we used to go to get out of the mid day heat and enjoy the sites of the relaxing gardens whilst you sip on mint tea and enjoy some nomades.

if you need more info, let us know, btw how many days are you thinking of staying in morocco?, should you go, i have some links for some recommended accomodation, depending on ya budget.

Re: Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

Orpheus thanks so much for the info. I see i have to mean to get it out of ya

Well my total trip time in spain and morocco combined is only a mere 7 days :frowning:
spain for 4days and morocco 3 days…give or take.

Im wondering if I should spend the entire 7 days in spain and save morocco for another trip…what say you all? Im so confused because I want to see both badly but time is so limited. :bummer:

and yes Orpheus..plz do send me those links. thanks again

Re: Spain- Astorias and Andalusia and Morocco

Your best just staying in Espagne if you have just 7 days and visit morocco some other time, well that’s what i would do due if a week is all i had.

That being said, 2 of the 3 places of interest i have mentioned above can be seen in a day or two, so if you were to push yourself i dont see why you can’t visit morocco too.
