South Asian Union

Re: South Asian Union

Inquiring minds want to know if the people of Andaman and Nicobar islands will also be part of the South Asian Union.

Re: South Asian Union

Sorry Pal, I am loathe to hijacking this thread, and this will therefore be my last reply on this (agenda of partition) topic.

I don't really know the dynamics of India's claim to these states, however I can safely state that these are well integrated into India today, mostly because they shared no border areas with Pakistan, and therefore remained immune from Pakistani machinations and interference. Should Kashmir have been similarly placed, this state too would have been well integrated and economically progressive and politically stable by now.

I do not wish to debate this any further, as I know this topic will never really go away (Thanks to our indoctrination)

My apologies, I do not post on this forum often enough to to a paucity of time, however today (since the wife and daughter are away at the club for a Halloween Party) I have time to kill till about 2 or 3 am, by when they should be back.

Re: South Asian Union

Andaman & Nicobar Islands are states of India, so they join the same club as India does

Re: South Asian Union

i did say in the future, it’s definitely not possible now

Re: South Asian Union

If we get rid of the Pak Army's role in politics - and on the other side Indian democracy gets rid of Shiv Sena RSS and the types then yes reunification would be possible.

Is it a good idea - I think its is. This is not saying partition wasn't a necessity or it was wrong - just figuring out whats best going forward.

@ Mufaddal - perhaps you should read about partition and Junagarh, Manvadr and Hyderabad.

Re: South Asian Union

@post 24 - love that cat and caption! Cracked me up (and probably cracked up "this Person" also)

Re: South Asian Union

In history we know It was united before under islamic rule, on what basis would the unity exist today or in the future?

if it's nationalism just leads to more division, if it's only based on economics unity will vanish in economic hard times, so what exactly will the unity or ideological bond be based on???

Re: South Asian Union

So you think Pakistan lays its claim on Kashmir because it is Muslim majority? :hehe: okay.

Re: South Asian Union

I would like to see model muslim state in Pakistan first, we can think about it after it is established in pakistan.

but nepalese work in India as labours, Gurkha regiment is full of nepalese citizen, no requirement of visa if an Indian wishes to visit nepal

what is your intended sarcasm?

it is not so easy, all countries need similar power structure, EU is political union, India needs political reform where power is more decentralized, Pakistan on the other hand needs a parliament which is not afraid of its millitary, Nepal needs stable democracy etc, we need FTA first, economic union and finally political union. we need politically well aware people who at least can set right priorities

millitary should be inside barracks but their should not be misfit between strategic community and military like that of in India, secondly I believe every country should have powerful deweaponized right wing which talks about nationalism .erodgen of turkey is right winger leading a secular country, BJP is political arm of RSS and they did try peace with Pakistan, lahore bus journey in 1999 was their initiative, a country also need leftist who talks about social ideas in capitalistic economy and a poweful constitution which can bind all of them fruitfully together. whether partition was right or wrong is irrelevant now

India wasnt united even then, we had fault lines in our unity and that is why british ruled us, they used those fault lines to gain power, Ideologically both Pakistan and Bangladesh were similar but finally they parted their ways.

It is only muslim majority region bordering pakistan, an unfinished part of partition of India

Re: South Asian Union

the kaur - I try not to be sarcastic. I was just being silly. If my comments were insensitive to the Andaman and Nicobar folks, let me know and I will delete them. I just picked a place that I am only remotely familiar with. (I do know that prisoners were sent there - but this was not a slight on them).

Re: South Asian Union

Re: South Asian Union

Re: South Asian Union

:muslim rule
what does that mean anyways?

if you're saying sharia law, then even the mughals weren't ruling with complete sharia right? no muslim majority country today is ruled by complete sharia, do you really think that a south asian union would be successful under it, the whole point of a union is so you look past these religious wars and look towards the success of the whole region

Re: South Asian Union

Pak + China + Iran + Turkey is my ideal calulation for an asian collation force.

Re: South Asian Union

Union is not possible and never will be viable solution for Pakistan and India. One of the major aspect of these two countries is poverty and non-educated class being manupalted by propaganda to show each other as absolute enemies. Yes we have Kashmir problem and because of that both countries use manupalation techniques to put each other down. Now, as far as people to people contact they are wonderful. I personally have seen that no ordinary Indian have a problem with Pakistanis nor Pakistanis have any issues with Indians. Everybody gets along with each other (at least overseas). So out duty is to educate our people about un-bias or generalizing attitude. So no union is not possible nor i will personally support this idea. However, what i would prefer is peaceful resolution of all the issues including disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir ( according to wish of ppl of Kashmir.)

Re: South Asian Union

okay fine, actually Faris Bhai liked your post, and he is an intellectual human being so I thought I missed something:).

I lived there as a child in car nicobar for one year, it is wonderful:k:

strange, even people above 65 years are denied visa from both side, my grandparents wanted to visit lahore, their ancestral place they are above 75 now and were denied visa, same is story for pakistanis who wish to meet their relatives in Kanpur and Lucknow:mad:

Brazil+India+china+Russia+SouthAfrica, from our side and later we can merge both equations

woh hamari equation mein add karne ke liya chhodd gaya hai:D

Re: South Asian Union

the relationship of pakistan and India could be likened to......being in a sadism/masochism bubble, any outsider would be in awe, plus i dont see either side giving up claims over j&k so that s&m relationship will last, the union would actually solve that
