We’re brown folks, some of us are lighter skinned than most brown folks  but still i wish for us brown folks to be strong as compared to the rest of the world is or as strong as the rest of the world, i love the United States and it will always be the country where i grew up in my love for it will be eternal but is it so wrong for me to hope for a South Asian Union where most all of South Asia(most importantly India and Pakistan(for me))be together in building one another up so that region as a whole can be strong.
yes, i’m an American Desi…if anybody doubts that, do you really think i care?
right now, it’s just the west: europe, continent of australia, and the Americas that seem to be strong( with the exception of china of course), but south asia is so greatly excluded
Our time as "one big brown union" is gone, the seeds of hatred are bearing its fruit, thank you Britain.
why to blame britain when we are ourselves responsible for largescale interdivisions in the society of indian subcontinent.based on caste creed, color, religione, economy, geographical area etc. it al were preexisting in subcontinent.
South Asian Union is impossible, perhaps an 'EU type / Andean Community' amalgamation of India, Bhutan, Maldives, Sri Lanka & Nepal in the next 30 years, and perhaps the addition of Bangladesh & Afghanistan in the distant future may be realized, but all of South Asia together will not happen in a million years.
And you too are right Indik. The divisions have been around almost as long as the buildings that hold such memories but one must remember that many had lived in peace and harmony before the British and the British did contribute much to cause the division we see.
True probles have existed before but just as those things had been smoothed over some other idiots come along and ruin things for everyone… typical of life really.
However this does not mean that one should give up chasing dreams of peace.
It is my belief that even one day of peace is worth more than a lifetime of war. Not because I am a man wh shirks from battle, I relish more than most humans the thrill of combat and the buzz of conflict however the true strength is peace and co-operation.
I believe for people like me dying is easy… death comes to us all. However the best can live through the worst things.
About a decade ago I hated and never dreamed of ever visitning India… in my youthfull arrogance one dreamed of conquering the “Enemy” and beating them because one was “Superior”.
Times have changed I have become older wiser and left the illusions behind and dreamed myself into the real world. Truth is that peace and prosperity is a bigger challenge than any battle and if more men come to see this the way I have then truly we can make something not just in South Asia but the whole world.
Whoever says a South Asian union is impossible is being overly harsh here and not thinking for the better of humanity… remember Europe was divided as much as we are today and back then the “Gora” ran around wearing blue paint…
Anyway I have made my point I think… feel free to mock me now…

I don't see Nepal joining this union in the distant future as well as I have seen many Nepalese who don't have anything positive to say about the Indians.
Well Europe was never as Ideologically divided as India & Pakistan are. We are poles apart in our beliefs and aspirations, and that’s were my pessimism comes from, and unless the indoctrination process changes our peoples we will always think differently
In an ideal world I’d like for us to at least work together and be civil neighbors, and even perhaps become a South Asian Union, but that’s like wishing for a blizzard in Chennai!

Well, money talks and bridges all differences, so in another 30 years when India gets richer and there are more job opportunities and better prospects here. I can wager my left foot that the Nepalese, or those that currently abhor India will very much like a bite of the pie.
Do you realise both World wars war a result of European differences? European differences have always been a big thing you think India and Pakistan are the only nations with a long standing quarrel… that cant seemingly be relsolved? Er how about Germany and England or France and England or even the Danes for that matter…
People make out the desi differences often without realising that we have afterall been divided for reasons… however differences can be broken down no matter what.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but Europe (Germany / Austria) made great changes ideologically (aka the Holocaust for instance), and were therefore able to reconcile. I don’t ever see that happening with India & Pakistan, and anyway the way we have been indoctrinated we’d would probably need 2 - 3 generations of re-education (one way or the other) to just reconcile. However as of now, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka have smaller ideological differences to bridge and I therefore think that these would possibly form the first states in any possible South Asian Union…

I am not talking about petty issues of caste and creed, I am talking about border issues they leave around the globe unless you are saying India will not be able to withstand divisions in society based on caste/creed/color/religion etc. We can't solve Kashmir issue and this will always be the barrier between us.

Well, in the case of Kashmir, its not just a border issue, if it was, India could sort it out in the same manner as it it did recently with Bangladesh, or implied as it has with China. In our case its more of an ideological issue and therefore the reluctance on either side to compromise.....We have just as many or more Muslims living in India, and therefore Kashmir belongs to us (as a Muslim dominated area) just as much as you'd like to believe it belongs to you, and if we go by your logic, then whats stopping you to lay claim the other numerous Muslim majority areas in current day India.
