Whether Sarfaraz bats this well in next few matches or not but what he has done is a great job which Nasir couldn’t have done and besides his specialty is keeping which did that brilliantly as well. Waqar should’ve simply kept shut instead of giving statements about Sarfaraz’s technique, now people who are insulting him and criticizing him. Waqar should’ve shown grace in both moments and some wisdom but he failed on both occasions and now people are shoving it and loving it. Waqar showed similar disgrace after losing in WC 2003, looks like Waqar is devoid of grace. If there are team/management issues because of these questions the blame will still be on Waqar and Misbah.
Anyhow I am happy for the team Pakistan

Yeah I watch it later too. I think waqar was reasonable (even though that question would have been handled in better way).
So Pakistani media was not only blowing it out of proportion they were actually giving WRONG news.

If Yahya had simply asked Waqar why Sarfraz was not played in the earlier games despite repeated failures by YK and Jamshed and despite UA’s less than satisfactory keeping, people (incl. myself) would understand it and have empathy with him but unfortunately he (Yahya) tried to give it a (personal and) political colour, an ethnicity tag and I thought Waqar handled it well in the circumstances.
And to say ‘rumour is you (Waqar) had a fight with Sarfraz’ in front of the whole media was not very professional imo. Schoolboys not professional journalists complain like that. Besides not everything (even if true) is meant for public consumption. Let the PCB investigate it first.
I am sure Yahya was the kind of irritating schoolboy who would go up to his teacher and complain about anything, “teacher, teacher falan ney meri pencil cheen li!”

Umar Akmal dropped 6 catches in 3 games. Sarfraz Ahmed caught 6 in one game, a World Cup record he now shares with Gilchrist (though he did it against a non-test playing nation, Namibia)

Sarfraz went to world cup as wicket keeper and third opener, still Waqar and Misbah were discriminating by not letting him play as wicket keeper or opener. Situation tuned bad, and there is rumor that when Sarfraz was not selected to play continuously 4 times, brawl did happened between Sarfraz and them. Especially, when Waqar said that Sarfaraz plays at 6 or 7 and is not good as opener. Misbah compared Sarfraz as opener with Irfan as opener.
As for ethnic colour, Media is full of writings all over, saying that Pakistan cricket board is actually Punjab cricket board and discriminates with players belonging to Karachi, especially Urdu speaking players. These talk started when Fawad with ODI average over 45, who played 8 ODIs in 2014 and posted average ~69 with SR over 75 (second highest average was below 40), was not picked for world cup, that happened even when playing ODIs in Australia, Fawad average as well as SR was highest (~40) compared other Pakistani batsmen (Misbah is playing ODi first time in Australia). Same happened with Fawad in test, where after making century in his first test (that also in away match, becoming first Pakistani to score debut century in away match), he was dropped.
So, if Yahya Hussaini raised the issue with Waqar, he was right. If no quarrel happened than it was a chance for Waqar to clear the issue. Pakistan Cricket Board management and team belongs to Pakistani people and is not personal property of anyone. These people get paid by Pakistan, and thus are answerable to Pakistani people for all decision they take. So, it is not just right but duty to raise all issues if something comes to public notice (real or perceived) and it is duty of PCB management and team to answer. There should be nothing under the carpet. Waqar running away and avoiding the questions was not only wrong, but it raised more questions, perception (or reality) that brawl happened became more strong, and more controversy developed, that I do not think would disappear.
It is also wrong to say that time was over, as questions from Pakistani media in Urdu just started and it was second question for local consumption (question in Urdu). Secondly, by running away from media, Waqar only differed the question with more strength and raised the controversy on the issue, that would not end.
Mood of the past, to allow such discrimination sitting down seems to have ended, and now people are openly raising the question. Even when media visited Sarfraz house, people were openly saying/complaining that PCB is Punjab Cricket Board that discriminates with players from Karachi, and this discrimination should not be allowed to go on (Please read articles in Dawn and other media outlets, and also read comments. You will know the perception and mood).
