South Africa in England 2012

Re: South Africa in England 2012

so what happens when a bowler attempts to run-out the non-striker-end player during his action for bowling?

Re: South Africa in England 2012

The batsman is “safe” to start backing up as soon as the bowler’s back foot lands. (but not before)

It has been customary for a bowler to warn the batsman but nothing in the Laws requires him to do so.** If a batsman is backing up too early, the bowler is legally entitled to run him out without warning.

Re: South Africa in England 2012

England's best chance to beat RSA (infact most touring teams) was at Headingley, Leeds (seaming wicket)

The next test is at Lord's (pretty good batting wicket). Visiting teams usu. do well here. So barring a miraculous performance by England with both bat and ball, RSA should dethrone England as the no.1 test side at Lord's

RSA 90/0

Re: South Africa in England 2012

RSA 258/9 dec. have set England an unlikely target of 253 runs off 39 overs

Re: South Africa in England 2012

But what about the ball, is it not ‘dead’ then?

Re: South Africa in England 2012

4 down for England

Re: South Africa in England 2012

From what I understand:

  • If a bowler is entering his delivery stride (but his back foot has not yet landed on bowling crease) and sees the nonstriker backing up too early, he will be well within his rights to claim (maybe politically incorrect or against the spirit of the game though) a runout after dislodging the bails. The ball won't be dead in this case

  • If a bowler has completed his delivery stride (back foot on bowling crease) but doesn't actually bowl the ball, the umpire will signal dead ball here. The bowler cannot just stand there (& not complete the delivery) and remove the bails (non-striker's end) even if the non-striker is outside the crease at this point

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Kevin Pietersen could have played his last game for England after launching an astonishing attack on the ECB and other members of the England dressing room.

Pietersen, who has been unsettled for some time by the demands of the England schedule, refused to confirm that the final Test of the series against South Africa at Lord’s would not be his last and expressed his anger that private conversations between him and officials at the ECB had been leaked to the media.

His comments are sure to be poorly received by those at Lord’s and by his England colleagues. With a vital Test looming it is far from impossible that Pietersen could be disciplined or even dropped in an attempt to retain a semblance of team spirit within the England camp.

I like test matches only when they end up successfully on your side of court.

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Eng went down trying to chase the total, if it were a Pakistani captain they would've tried to draw the match.

Misbah :help:

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Just yesterday Pakistani U-19 went down trying :)

Re: South Africa in England 2012

your vision or problem is limited to Misbah but if you look at our history you will rarely find a situation where our team went down chasing a target to win a test match.
