Re: South Africa in England 2012

**Proteas don’t need KP and Trott, says Steyn

Dale Steyn has stoked the fires ahead of South African’s series against England, stating that he doesn’t believe Kevin Pietersen and Jonathan Trott would necessarily be good enough to make the current Proteas side.

**Fresh of Trott’s declaration that he loves the rain of his adopted Birmingham more than the sun he grew up with in Cape Town, the topic of South African-born players representing England has once again come to the fore.

Trott, Pietersen and Craig Kieswetter are all South African exports currently in the England set-up and while Steyn doesn’t begrudge the decision they made, he insists they’re not missed.

"I’m very open minded about life, and people have to do what they have to do,’ he told the Daily Mail.

"I’ve got no problems with that. **Pietersen, Trott and Kieswetter are **the ones, really, and they’re fantastic players but I’m not saying we’re missing out because, if I look at our team, I feel who would they knock out? I think they’d have a hard time getting into our team now. Seriously.

"I’m happy for them that they’ve come over here and made good lives for themselves and achieved fantastic things in cricket but I’m not saying that we miss them at all. I’m sure they would have done just as well if they’d stayed at home but they play for England. We’ve got loads of guys at home who want to play for South Africa who are very good players.

"The Proteas want to achieve fantastic things. Obviously we don’t want players to leave to play in England, New Zealand and Australia but if they decide to do that what can we do?

“All I’d say to the England players is that they will soon be playing for the No.2 team in the world because we want to get to No.1.”

The small matter of the number one test ranking his up for grabs when the two teams meet in a three-match series, with the Proteas requiring a series win to move ahead of their hosts.
**
Steyn reveals that the Proteas are brimming with confidence and that he rates the current crop of players and the atmosphere in the camp as the best he has come across.**

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Straight talk from Steyn...

Re: South Africa in England 2012

**First Test (July 19-23) at The Oval

**England 385 - England's innings fell away slightly after a strong start (251/2). probably should have made 500+/- from that position

Day 3 (morning session) - South Africa 171/1

Graeme Smith 89* and Amla 78* have led a strong South African response. They will look to bat till lunch tomorrow and build a 100+ first innings lead

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Brother Amla is batting brilliantly even though he is fasting :salute:

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Smith is 103 not out

Amla 93 not out.

Re: South Africa in England 2012

SA 216/1

btw this is Graeme Smith's 100th test match and his 25th hundred (108*)

8150 runs at 50.30 is an impressive record (don't forget that he is an opener so has to face the best bowlers from the word go)

Amla 104*

These two are making the English attack look pretty ordinary (The Oval wicket is batting friendly though)

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Partnership finally broken - Smith gone for 131 b Bresnan - after 259 runs

RSA 260/2

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Brother Amla is just awesome

Whattay Player

Re: South Africa in England 2012

raeme Smith today became first South African and seventh player of the world to score century in his 100th Test. Smith achieved the feat during Day-3 of the ongoing Test against England at the Oval.

Other 6 players are Colin Cowdrey, Gordon Greenidge, Javed Miandad, Alec Stewart, Inzamam-ul-Haq and Ricky Ponting. Ponting though has unique feat of scoring centuries in both innings of the 100th Test.

Pakistan and England are only teams to have 2 batsmen who scored centuries in their 100th Test.

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Inzy and Smith are the only batsmen to score their hundreds in away tests.

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Amla is awesome. What an innings, sheer class.

200 for Hashim Amla :salute:

Legend In Making

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Amla bhai, kya baat hay aapki

Re: South Africa in England 2012

**Centuries galore at The Oval for batsmen

*Cook 115
Smith 131
Amla 220

Kallis 103* (43rd test hundred)

and bowlers - Dale Steyn just missed out (30-7-99-2)

Anderson 104/1
Swann 109/0
Bresnan 109/1

Re: South Africa in England 2012

RSA 471/2

Amla 225* might beat his highest test score (253*) today

Re: South Africa in England 2012

514/2 at Lunch (4th day), Amla 251*, Kallis 125*

Lead 129 runs

I think it w'd be a draw though. The Oval wicket is full of runs

Even if RSA manage to build a substantial first innings lead (250+) by tea today, it is debatable whether they would be able to dismiss England in 3.5-4 sessions. For much of England's first innings, the South African bowling did not look all that menacing or threatening on this pitch

Last innings batting is all about pressure; will be interesting to see if RSA bowlers (having the advantage of knowing that they cannot lose this game) are able to exert more pressure on the english batsmen in the second innings

Re: South Africa in England 2012

Can Amla reach 300? Go man.

Re: South Africa in England 2012

No South African batsman has scored a test triple hundred yet. Could Amla be the first one?

DeVillier's 278* vs Pak in Abu Dhabi in 2010 is RSA's highest individual test innings
