To add to an already exhausted topic, why when a girl expects to marry someone who is her equal (values-wise, physical attractiveness-wise and education/professional success-wise), is she called too demanding and unrealistic? .

I see men wanting a hot girl but why would a hot girl settle for mediocrity? She knows she’s hot…so settling with an average joe…makes no sense. Might as well go for the gold.

The problem is not with being materialistic, its the way they try to hide their materialism that looks bad e.g. using words like “financial stability” or “security” or “stable job” when all they really want to know is how much money he has/can make.

But before I respond, why is aspiring to financial security in a relationship a bad thing and why is it termed materialistic? In your mind are there degrees of acceptability for a woman wanting financial security?

Why is it wrong? Because materialism and perviness aren’t exactly positive traits. A guy wants a girl to whom he’s attracted to? Fair enough. A girl wants a guy with an income to support a decent lifestyle (especially the lifestyle that she’s used to)? Fair enough. Both are somewhat necessary for a happy marriage.

But if the guy will not settle for anything less than a double D and if the girl will not settle for anything less than a millionaire, them two really are miserable individuals.

Also, why is it that only rich men deserve hot women and vice versa? Every woman deserves diamonds (not even gold) as far as she’s concerned!

Of course its wrong if the deciding factor is simply wealth.

But what exactly is the problem in looking for someone who is financially stable?

I would mind it if it were only for the money and that her loyalty and commitment were depending on it. Otherwise, if the money is just another thing that gave me the edge in the selection process, it wouldn’t make much of a difference to me.

BBC when we get a rishta or discuss a potential rishta...parents and the girl are very hesitant to discuss finances because it makes them FEEL as if they are being perceived as gold diggers.

I dont know anyone in real life who would voluntarily sink into poverty. I dont know anyone who would rather have no money. Money is important when you're looking for a mate...he should be able to support a family. And looks are important for men when looking for a mate. The problem is as soon as you talk about it, men and their families are on the alert thinking these people are looking for a rich guy. Its not right when the girl is being judged on her looks (which she has no control over).

Taking this into consideration...Im coming to the conclusion that marrying with money being a part of the equation cannot be a bad thing.
