A couple of weeks ago, while driving around in another city on Friday, I decided to look for a Masjid to pray in…
I saw this black guy walking down the street and I asked him, if he knew any Masjid in the area…He told me that there was one, but he didn’t know where…So, he told me to go down the end of the street, and there was a package store which was run by Asians, and they would know…
So I went there, a middle-aged Gujju lady was behind the counter smoking a cigarette…From her appearance she seemed like a poor-man’s, matted-hair version of Cruella DeVille…
I asked her if she knew any Masjid around here, to which she replied, no…
After I walked out of the store, I looked back at the store, and suddenly realized, something had happened which this shair will describe:
**
Aisay abiD bhi haiN, JannaT ka PaTaa rakhTay haiN,
Not at all, I am comfortably numb amusing myself in gen/relig . :D.sooo which KFC did you pray in this friday and which krispy creme donut shop are u gonna pray this friday?
Roman, FYI, if the universe worshipped Khuda, it wouldn’t matter one iota to Him…Neither if nothing did…
But that’s a Shair based on some very ill-knowledge…
So the writer is taking the premise of the Masjid, and making the baseless statement of this khuda having a Kharab Khana…Invalid syntax, and since I sucked at Logic (Which was very illogical to begin with), I know that’s some kind of a fallacy…
Here’s my take on it, keeping in mind the truth:
**
Karta hai khud Ibn-e-ADam apna Khana Kharab,
Na karay jab yeh woh Sajdaa jo us par Laazim hai,
**
AQ, I’ve prayed at gas stations, malls, stores e.t.c…
, the world is our Masjid (Except toilets and other people’s places of worship)…We can pray wherever we want…
Verizon, your job is to be cool and innocent…Why worry about things that bother you…If you are going to be inquisitive, then the list is endless…Why did Iraq get attacked? Why almost 2 million Iraqis are dead in this ‘enlightened’ age by the ‘enlightened’ ones…? How can people still see it as good? How can people still believe those who have been proved liars again and again?
Lajjo: that shair mentioned by Roman was of Ghalib.. I know reading it the way it appears will lead to the same conclusion as you’ve reached.. But when I came to know the context of it I was really surprised.. (I may have heard the wrong context though as I never was able to confirm it..)
Ghalib had several sons who died in early age and one night he heard a similar news and was walking sadly in a street when he saw a mosque at a prayer time with no people in it… and then he said this sher… which actually if looked in context will tell you that Ghalib is actually saying to his condition… in a bizzare way but he is not complaining… philosophical to say the least.!!
AQ…That was great…Thanks to you, I feel a little wiser today…
Aw, man…I just know the history behind a couple of Ghalib’s Ghazal, but this was nice…
Ghalib must be very hurting when he must have written this Shair…I missed the Sarcasm against Allah :swt: and took it as a mockery…
Still, one thing comes to mind…
Ghalib is describing empty Masajids, and that was a time when the Muslims of Hindustan were under total British domination and the Mughal empire was in ruins…Could this be the reason? No one worshipping Allah…
I have never really read Ghalib, just know his poetry though some passing songs by Jagjit and Chitra I once listened to…
Then when I read him a little, found a few distasteful Shairs…Maybe my own ignorance makes me think so, not knowing their background…
Lajo, its basically your intentions and your resolve that matter or that would matter eventually. Logon kow kyon dosh daitay how. :) Woh kehtay hain na kay,
