Think about it this way. And I am talking about your moms statement about wasting a persons time.
If you worked at a store and you had a poor looking customer come in and you thought to yourself, hmm, this person cant really afford things in this store, you wouldnt give them that much time. Because you feel they cant afford anything, so sure, you dont give them much of your time.
Now you see a wealthy person come in, so you think to yourself you can possibly make a sale on this person, so you lavish them with your time and attention. Now, considering all the hardwork you just put into that wealthy customer, versus the blaise attitude with the poor one which you pretty much assumed couldnt afford anything, which one will make you feel wasted more of your time when neither of them buy?
I think many people would say that if you put a lot of effort into something and got nothing out it, versus if you put little effort into something and got nothing out of it, the one where you put in lots of effort was more a waste of your time. I could be wrong here, but I think if people know aforetime that neither customer will buy, they wont put much effort into either of them.
