Yes the best thing to do when you are being followed, is to go to a crowded place or sneak into a shop

Some tips from our UN security here in Afghanistan.

If you feel you are being followed and you are not certain.

  1. Call a friend or someone. In our case it is UNDSS. But you call someone right away inform them and tell them to pick you up.
  2. Cross the street. Go to the other side. See if they follow.
  3. Find a crowded location with a large Foreign group.
  4. Grab your key chain and keys (this is not UN). Your keys can be used as a weapon in case you are attacked. Always aim for the neck. If its a guy aim for the adam's apple.
  5. Always stay in the open for multiple exit points.

Never ever:
1. Confront the person.
2. Go back to where you were.
3. Go home.
4. Go into a closed environment. That means you can be cornered. Stay out in the open.

If it gets more "uncomfortable":
1. Get a cab or public transport. Don't take the first cab that comes to you, because it may be part of the group stalking you. Talk to him and then say no. Call for a second. Say no. Move to another location do so again till you feel comfortable.
2. Go to a safe location. Embassies, UN offices, NGO offices. Locations with armed guards and notify the authorities right away.

People were following me too few times ago :( as I have took credit from bank :D. Now nobody follows me :( not even on twitter.
