happenned to me.
i stopped my car. lowered my window. and asked the guy on the bike "do you have a problem?" in the most disgusted tone.
he said "who me? no no" and skitterred away.
retards.
edit: and yeah it was quite deserted but i just couldn't stand the idiot following me. i was even ready to get out of the car and kick him.

Has happened to me too- twice.
Once was super scary since i was in a very deserted library in school. Summer session usually sees almost no students in the library anyways, I was looking for a specific book on the 7th floor- not a good idea. I remember being so scared and moving through the shelfs so fast that I don't even remember the face of the person anymore. Prayed Ayat-ul-Kursi and got into a waiting elevator which already had someone in it, thankfully it opened on that floor just in time.
Second was a drunk Hispanic guy, I laughed about it later when I had reached home- but I remember being SO angry while talking to him. He kept telling me that I had met him at some party and he wants to walk me home since it's dark. Rightttt!
You did the right thing, always walk to a crowded place, contact your family asap and update them about your location, try to find someone to escort for the rest of the way and never appear intimidated as it encourages a potential assailant....... May Allah protect everyone.

I would recite Ayat ul Kursi ( I do this anyways when I leave home and phonkofy on myself) turn around to see if someone is following me and then I would probably change direction and head towards a crowded place. If needed I can run away 
Once I dropped my friends off and I felt someone had been following me for quite some time. I didn’t head towards my home. Infact I went straight to my parents so bhai usko theek karay

Main itne tereh mereh rastay se gayi ke khud hi bhag gaya phir bhi just to make sure I headed straight for my parents place. Samajhdar hon na?

I got followed once by a nacker... (I don't know what u guys call nackers in ur areas.. gypsie, perhaps?) .. anyway... he was sitting on a bench on the pedestrian path... As I walked past him, he lit a patakha and it went off with a bang and I got a minor heart attack... I kept walking at the same pace, didn't walk faster, didn't look back, didn't show how scared I was... I just kept walking and reciting ayat-al-kursi... And I don't know when he turned back and left.... ayat-al-kursi is your saviour guys <3
If he had tried to rob me.. I wouldn't have resisted and given him all my money etc... (Trust me, if ur being robbed, u DO NOT want to resist, especially if ur in pakistan)... But if he had tried to attack me in some way, I would've put up a hell of a fight ...
