Some questions about LUMS

Well I only have one question at the moment. Is there an entry test?

I have sent in my application and they have recieved it, is there any way to speed up the application process?

I have some personal questions about LUMS that I can’t post here. Are any guppies going there or know anybody there and if so, I would really really appreciate a pm from you.

I would email them but I am sure they are tired of me by now, I have been sending a lot of emails.

Lums doesnt have an Entry test. I dont know about speeding the application up the application, will have to check that.

I have a few college mates who graduated from lums and are working now. Most of them are Economics graduates. I can PM you their contact info if you want.

SS: No help with lums… :nahnah:

^ i think that entry test is offered to those who for some reason are unable to take gmat/gre. otherwise it is not mandatory.

its always better to check websites for entry requirements in fields one is interested.. check LUMS’s website first..

Thats for graduate admissions... I think sarahs question was about undergrad...

Hmm…It didnt have an entry test few years ago. Did it? and is it applicable to foreign students as well?

Doesnt say anything about a test on a following page:
http://www.lums.edu.pk/BSc_criteria.htm

was referring to Khanzada's post

you didn't say if it was for the undergrad or the grad courses..

neither did he..and i guess its hard to figure out if gre/gmat is for undergrad or grad programs

and i am sure they don't have any entry test specifically for courses

GMAT is required for admission in the MBA program where as SAT is required for the Bachelors program.

Sarah PM saby he's in Lahore right now and quite familiar with LUMS, he can prolly help you out...Waisay I'll send him a link to this thread and ask him to check it out too...

I'm trying to get admission as a transfer student for their Bsc (Hons) Economics degree. So it's undergraduate that I'm concerned with.

My problem is that I will be leaving Canada at the end of this month but they said I won't be told of my admission status before the end of July. I need to know before that but since I'm not there in person and have no high-end connections, I can't put any pressure on them to tell me earlier.

My other problem is that my GPA isn't all that hot. It's 2.0 or something like that. I've done two years of undergraduate here and have two semesters of Fs and D's and withdrawn courses. I have tons of volunteer experience and extra-curricular activies though. I am only looking for credits to be transferred for courses that I've passed, aside from the F's, I have A's and I'm not demanding that they put me in third year. Just gimme credits and put me wherever, I need to get in. I'm not even sure I'll get admission.

Hey Sarah,

I know its a huge bummer to waste time spent on courses but if the transfer thing doesn't work out, why don't you try applying as a freshman and not as a transfer and then after you get in, you can actually go and talk to the people involved and they might give you credit for the classes you have passed. Like for the next round of admissions, or if the current round is open, send frosh and transfer applications.

You know the SAT thing you were talking about. I think if you were to take the SAT and get a good score in it, that would be a major plus, so if you are up to it, I'd say take it and send them the scores anyway even if its not a requirement. Atleast take the SAT 1's if you are not up to taking the SAT 2's. I think a good SAT score will compensate the GPA factor in your application to a large extent.

Another idea is...I know its going to be a bit expensive and will require some persistence on your part but I think you should try to personally get in touch with the Dean, call him or something, email him, try to get some personal communication going with him. Or atleast go to the LUMS page and try to get some personal communication going with some of the faculty. I've met the Dean of LUMS and he seems to be not a bad person at all. Maybe if you talk to him personally and are able to convince him it might work out. I don't know how approachable ppl in the higher positions make themselves in academic instuitions in Pakistan but in American colleges they are open to talking to students and listening to their personal problems and trying to solve them.

Khayr, good luck girl, I hope it works out for you.

Yes your GPAis a problem, have you applied online? i guess not, that way you could have gotten in touch with them on personal basis. Anyways, you havent mentioned your SAT scores etc, if you havent taken SAT1-SATII tests, your application will never be processed and you can forget about that. And if you have taken it and got good scores in it then you shouldnt worry about previuos academic record that much, yes it still carries some weightage but a good score in sat reduces that weight. Your previuos courses can be waived when you get admission, coz they wont treat you as a transfer student as far as i think, First they will treat you as a fresh applicant and if you are accepted Only then you can fight for your course waivers.

To all people concerned SAT-SATII are basic requirements for UnderGrad admissions and For Graduate admissions, either you take GMAT/GRE Or you can take thier LMAT(LUMS management admission test) or LGAT (Lums Graduate Admission test) which are almost identical to GMAT and GRE.

Read my posts and you will see ke tum kitni cheater ho :roman: :stuck_out_tongue:

anyways yes Sarah, as irem suggested and i will second that personal contact establishment will help you to some extent, talk to LUMS VC or thier admission officer atleast, they will tell you your exact prospects (mayeb they wont tell you but they can verify your credentials)

I haven't taken my SAT's because they are not a requirement for Canadian universities and I asked the LUMS people to waive that requirement for me for that reason.

I applied by mail as I had to send in my references and course descriptions and outlines (for courses completed at my university).

I will try to get in touch with the Dean. What is his name?

well appklying onlien doesnt mean that everything goes online, you still have to mail the docuemnts :)

anywyas the VC name is Zahoor Hasan, a very nice guy. Best of luck.
And my advice, ask him to re-assure if SAT is not a problem as you mentioned above....
