the price of a dress is not determined by embroiodery only. fabric prices and tailoring keep increasing (fabric prices on weekly basis at times) so the dress I quoted or 12000rs 2 yrs back costs me 13000rs now ! and NO karigar charges less for the same design with time because they have this justification that kaam material/labour charges increase with time as well, so they end up charging the same after haggle.
for the mehndi dress, it costs me 16700rs. let me know if you want a breakdown and a closeup picture beause like you said it is NOT kaam on banarsi ONLY, the pink border is full of tilla kaam filled with dabka, stones, glassbeads and sequins and this is on the 4 sided dupatta border plus the shirt like you can see and then there is dabka/stones motifs spray all over the dupatta and shirt (it costs 1000rs for heavy sequins spray and 1500-1800 for this sized motif spray on dupatta only). the blue banarsi border and pink silk are pure fabrics (medium silk is over 300/yard) and the suit itself is on pure raw silk (400/yard now).
for the other red gharara, it is all handwork. i DONOT do machinework topped with handwork and charge for handwork like designers like amna ajmal and others do ! the kaam only on this bridal with equal kaamon back of shirt, 6" heavy kaam border on FOUR sides for dupatta is for 85000rs (please get a printout and go to liberty and ask for the filled kaam on a PROPER SEVEN yards flair wala gharara) and the stitching costs for gharara with hand finishing is 6000rs. please calculate the rest of the expenses for abric which is 60gms chiffon georgette for dupatta and gharara and pure self emboss banarsi for the shirt and pure medium silk lining for the entire outfit.
I might seem offended but judging that you live in pakistan as well, PLEASE DONT pass statements without having a proper idea of what you are commenting on. My profit margins are 10-15% and I cannot revise the prices i put up 3 yrs back for every increase in the rate of fabric, stones and other material.
I think people seriously have no idea how much cost is involved in doing a 4 sided duputta. I'm sure that mehndi outfit with a plainer duputta would fall dramatically in price.
I don't know where the idea comes from that the cost for old designs will decrease. Vendors like proto aren't making outfits and sitting on them until someone wants them. They make them to order, which means they buy the fabric, do the tailoring and the kaam at the market rates at the time of order. A kaarigar isn't going to charge her less for 'old' work, labour is labour.
I agree with Proto. Fabric prices are drastically changing upon every visit so are the charges for embroidery and stitching. We as a seller takes into account all the smallest things into account to prepare costing and unfortunately the total cost for even a very simple looking suit turn out to be more just bcoz of the linings, dupatta finishing patties, and same other small items like fancy buttons etc. which most of the buyers dont even think of unless they find the ready dress in their hands. Hardly we are left to put up high margins over cost, as we have to see the probability of sale as well.
The fact that proto hasnt changed her prices despite the 250% increase in prices is amazing. I revise my prices every two months so I think shes doing a great job there. And no prices go down after a while :S they only go up here lol you forgot who our president is?
thanks a lot catwalk, stoppit, taniya and xenab for your input and support. It gets annoying at times to see such comments when we are already irritated to see the rise in prices of fabric/tailoring for no reason anytime.
Just an example, I ended up paying 1600rs to the tailor for SS 12A/12B lawn suit stitching with appliques on sleeves and daaman on top of the panel stitching (it has chiken panels inserted which was additional 700rs for the chiken fabric that was enough for 2 shirts) and that panel part had to be lined too, so the cost on the stitching, extra fabric for lining, chiken fabric and silk for finishings came out to be 2200rs. so if we quote 2600rs for stitching for it, it will be a full story about ‘haww hayee’ for a lawn suit stitching charges when no one will ever care to think about what went in making of it. AND if I try to bring down costs to keep the stitching charges within 16-1800rs, the final dress wont look much like the picture and I will be bashed for bad quality stitching/copying. jayen tau jayen kahan
Thats true Proto! The prices are increasing for not only dyeing to tailoring but also transportation that you have to pay back and forth many a times. The dress that used to get ready in US $7000 a year back had gained a thousand rupees in total now and still clients are expecting to give them the same rate.
lollll nahin TF. NOT directed at you or other customers at all. I was just explaining how bad the situation of inflation is !! end pe phir wohi ek lawn ka suit..I feel pity on ladies I see in liberty wearing those lawn suits, all sweaty and bad. itni lines may kharay ho kay , dhakkay khaa kay, tailor ko musibat daal kay silwaya hua suit bazaar may pehennay kay liay reh jata hai
