^ Hmmm! Good point ^ Actually I mentioned Dubaiwali Guppan hypothetically cause i know she's raised and lives in Dubai i think she's the same guppan i knew before !!!!!
But, you can help too !! In fact I'l be grateful if you would.
1 - I don't know yet where I can find accommodation nearest to the airport vicinity, lets say for two people. ( AED 2000 - 3000 ) pm
2 - I'm leaning towards the option from EK to use their provided accommodation, But I like to move on after few months to my own arrangement
3 - I'm not good with buses and my type of work would require much faster mode of moving around Dubai (metro is fairly new to dubai as well so I don't know)
4 - How much I can reasonably spend towards a car purchase (used but fairly new)
5 - How soon can I get my Canadian Driver's Licence into UAE Licence ?
Nearest to the Airport for around 36,000 dirhams an year, I would say you can rent a 1 bedroom flat in International City. It's on a major highway, very near to inner city, Garhoud, Airport area. There's Silicon Oasis too just near it. I will research about other places in this budget and get back to you. Oh and if you do end up deciding to live in International City, I can show you a nice 1 bedroom flat.
Raindance you don't know, Emirates provides amazing accommodation. I don't know what is the nature of your job but many people get amazing villas to live in, there is a separate whole Emirates Villas community!! BEAUTIFUL! If I was working for Emirates I would surely live there. Think about it, you can save rent costs and use that money somewhere else. Again I don't know what is your job but you get either a flat to live in or a villa.
I think for you it would be best if you bought or leased a car. I think Canadian Licence is converted in to UAE one. You go to Dubai Traffic Police Headquarters in Qusais with a passport + passport copy, Canadian licence and there is a form you need to fill up and give all of this with a fee and they will make you a Dubai licence on the spot. You will have both Canadian and Dubai licence then.
At least 40 50k for a car.

Thanks a load Lady!
Now this info ^ is something that is useful and good to have. None of the "websites" have this inner info of preferences etc.
Good to know about UAE Licence and thats one load of my chest.
Inshallah if all goes well I shall be working at the Airport EK Operations "Load Controller" This assignment is all about 'Night Shift' and very fast paced quick flight turn around etc. So day time rest/sleep & RR is most important.
So it seems from your info that AED3000 pm is doable which means I can save extra AED2000 pm from EK Housing Allowances alone. (If I choose EK accommodation then this Money will not be available) get my point ?
Yaaaah! International city sounds good. I took a flying visit once 12 yrs ago and it was ok, don't know about latest developments. do they get metro access too?
Ohh,,,and does the rent has any hidden extras like municipality taxes etc ?
40-50k for a car seems NEW car prices?
Hey Lady! I knew I could count on you ,,,,, 1,2,,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0,0,0,0 :D:
Obviously they don’t. Only someone who actually lives here and knows the city well will know about all the info. Oh yeh no worries about the licence. You can drive your car with your Canadian licence for 1 month within which you have to sort out the Dubai licence.
Load Controller? That’s nice iA. Oh right, that’s true. Yeh it is doable. International City is a nice place to live in. Depends on which area you are living in though. Definitely not in China. France or Persia is nice. There’s dragon mart near by, and it’s on Emirates Road which is direct to different places. 12 years ago is a long time, it’s changed a lot. Unfortunately not yet, there is no access to metro. If you want to catch a metro, nearest station to International City is Rashidiya. I think there is Municipality Tax but it’s not a lot and it also depends on the size of flat or house you are living in, so you are saved.
It could be for a new car, depending on what car you are buying or for a second hand car, again depending on what car you are buying. Lol, what’s with those numbers? Oh and btw, if you do intend to stay in International City then you are lucky a bit since the newly opened Mega Mall of Dubai “Mirdif City Centre” is really near by. Also Mirdif area is near International City and it has Uptown Mirdiff and Spinneys. So that’s awesome.
Did my question about Dubai really annoy you so much? But what was wrong with that question? My sister lives in Dubai, and that's what she told me. I hope things improve there because there are many Pakistanis employed in Dubai.
Secondly, where is the rule about advertising and links? I am not aware of such a rule, Ms. Mod-wannabe. If you show me such a link then I will change my signature.
Has the job situation improved in Dubai?
I heard Dubai is running out of gasoline now?!
I was not aware of any job situation decline in Dubai and secondly much depends on the type of Jobs you'r seeking. If you can fulfill the required skill criteria than you are IN to compete.
One thing will not change and that is the manpower it needs to turn the big wheel on daily basis.
Gasoline? LOL don't know much about that,,, what is your reference / context ?
“Emarat is finding it difficult to get bank loans to enable it continue to sell petrol below cost, so it’s trying to ration the limited quantity of gasoline it has. The company is incurring a daily loss of about Dh2 million due to the subsidy on the fuel and compensation from other businesses such as convenience stores isn’t enough to cover the losses,” an Emarat source told Gulf News.
“This problem will continue until the government frees petrol prices,” he added.
Oh well ! The inclination is more of micro economics situation and how the Government can free its hands from heavy subsidy burden to rpovide cheaper gasoline to its citizens, lower spendings, consolidate its revenues and income thus balancing the budget.
Nothing to panic about.
Because UAE is in the limelight for its development and lavishness, media loves to ponder on such inside scoops.
UAE has suffered a bit as any other country has in this global economic recession.
I hate it when the media love to just skew things and throw anything out at the people. Whatever they can get their hands on!! Oh and people blindly reference media without thinking or something.
