Re: Somalia announces Prophet's (SAW) Birthday as National Holiday
Religion is a tool often used by politicians to keep masses busy with these 'controversies' while they consolidate their power and wealth. I bring it up because you asked what could be the motivations behind such actions by the Somalian president.
I mean, how much love for Rasool (SAW) would Solmalian politicians have? If they followed his teachings even to an extent of 10%, they wouldn't be running one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
How does not working for a day prove your love for your Prophet (SAW)?
About correlations, there are several studies showing a positive correlation between how 'religious' a country is and how much corruption exists in that country. I am not talking about Islam in particular. Philippines, for example, is a highly 'religious' society and also a highly corrupt one. If you like, I can point you to some, but as you said that is not the topic here.
The idea is this... once you are indoctrinated with that idea that everything is "God's Will", then you do not have much motivation to stand up to injustices in the society. Again, this is about 'public display of religiosity' and not true faith that can make humans, humans.
Re your last sentence, those who are publicly over pious, are prone to have a herd mentality and deploy isolation tactics and dirty politics to get their way. Hence not surprising any nation which is publicly over pious is also the least honest.

^ Wahabis are good as long as they fight your Sunnis' war against Shia. Get rid of "Daesh" from yourself first. These sectarian (corrupting Islam) approaches are counter productive as it creates more divides.
I or these "non-wahabis" didn't ask you to fight any wars against shiites. phannay khan bannay ka khud shauq hai tum na aqal logon ko.

Shame on you for typical fascism approach to label others as extremists. My point is about so called traditional approach. As if extremism cannot be eliminated with keeping Islam pure.
Why cant kurds and shiites of Iraq come along to fight ISIS? Instead they are fighting each other.
Re: Somalia announces Prophet's (SAW) Birthday as National Holiday
SDF and kurds are fighting together in syria. Plus, the kurds and shiite areas are clean and aside from the fact that kurds & shiites might not want to die for sunni arabs, what makes you think that they attacking ISIS won't be turned around by your saudi / qatari masters to do genocide on sunnis?
PS Why can't saudia and iran come together? Go play these semantic jamati games with someone else.
There is tons of kufr going on even by your side (where does it say in islam that suicide bombing is halal?) yet mawlid nabi is the worst thing to happen. I saw the thread where your mahi baap saudi mufti was calling it the most evil and corrupt practice; yeah sure, ISIS are angels.
Re: Somalia announces Prophet's (SAW) Birthday as National Holiday
Lolz where did I say wahabies are absolutely good? Btw, as for as i know about the start of saudi-iran conflict, it was an irani leader who wrote letter to saudis and persuaded and warned them for being conservative. I just pointed out the dual faced attitude of sunnis toward wahabies. Like they say saudis lakh buray sahi shia ko to daba k rakhtay han na.
Sunnis of Syria are fighting for their own purpose against asad, not for asad.
Re: Somalia announces Prophet's (SAW) Birthday as National Holiday
Why can't they allow celebration of christmas AND make the birthday of the prophet a holiday? Must it be either this or that? Somalia is a failed state, so really can't expect much from them.
But for the non-muslim part of the international community this will just reinforce the idea that muslim majority nations are intolerant toward other religions. Whats truly worrying is that such discriminatory moves resonate with some, because they are willing to condone discrimination as long as it pushes people towards the "one true religion".
Btw, not surprisingly the scandinavian nations are at the top of the least corrupt countries list. Secularism coupled with scandinavian style social democracy (the nordic model) create the best of societies. People of all religions should take notes.
In Scandinavia even many of the churches are "secularised", in other words they are inclusive of all religions, and don't speak of who to discriminate or subjugate, and who will burn in hell. Sure you have the "mullahs", in form of the bible belt, but they are a fringe minority, and not taken seriously by the society at large.
