There appears no end in sight of this menace.
With every passing day more Pakistani soldiers are being martyred.
I think the real problem for Pakistan is that Taliban are getting stronger in Afghanistan. They control large areas and gaining strength by the day. The Karzai governmentis now negotitating with them. If the security forces launch attacks the Taliban will move temporarily to neighbouring Afghan areas and move back when offensiveis over. In this way they can keep engaging our forces for long time.
WHat are Pakistan’s options?
*Seal off the Durand line completely. But Afghan&US government do not want this.
The Waziristan problem has proven that the Pakistan Army is not upto the challenge... Badly demoralized, they will continue to receive humiliation, if anyone has been to places like Swat, its not even in Pakistan's control anymore
The reality is that whats originally started in South Waziristan has spilled over because of the bungling off this gov, the situation is getting worse because the govt abandoned it's allies in the region while making "deals" (as is the specialty of this gov..rotten deals).
Almost all local political figures and maliks have been targetted killed since that time, as a result and with the over deployment of the FC in one part of FATA the "militants" have stretched out deep into the settled areas. The Federal govt (lest we forget the effective rulers of the region) has shown little interest in whats going in, partialy because the government has been obsessed with Musharrafs re-election (and breaking the black coat movement..because protesting lawyers in Mushys eyes are more dangerous than the collapse of the govts writ) and partially because they don't want to go so far as to upset the JUI.

So much glee at Pakistan's troubles can only be shown by enemies of the country.
No one has pwned Pakistan Army, these are paramilitary forces fighting in the FATA region. Govt needs to move that ineffective force out and use massive numbers of regular troops. Kill and mame a few hundred thousand, and those SoB's will soon be pleading for peace.

That is right. Even in kashmir, when insurgency began...many were afghan fighters. Initially instead of regular troops, indian government had deployed BSF to deal with the situation. But were not successful. Only then, army was deployed. But even then, army wasn't COMPLETELY successful particularly against afghan fighters.
legbreak, maybe you didnt know about them giving up these 'insurgents'... I have been to Swat twice, and if you go there now, its a totally different place, the Taliban OWN it now, the Pakistan Government has no control left there, Zak put it very aptly. There is a reason why our forces began giving up, it was bound to happen.
The problem is these B*ards think that , They can blow up anyone just cuz no one can stop them..... someone needs to put sense in their retarded heads that Army tries its best to protect its civilians thats why they have to be extremely carefull while conducting operation, these lunatics have no respect for life ...thats why they are wining. The gov. should get a petition signed from pakistani awaam that they wouldnt cry with the collateral damage if any action taken in FATA area to protect rest of the pakistani civilians and to clense the cancer of our society..... civilians from fata area should be evacuated and then Army and airforce should be brought in ,give them a big blow from three direction inside pakistan territory .... the fourth one which is durand line ...ask the coalition forces or afghan forces to take out whoever trying to flee the area..... I bet they'll be begging for truce afterwards. *
*but then again...anyone can conquer the world just by words exactly what i'm doing here......... immediate action is necessary and is must at this moment.
^ muali, the problem is, if the army tries doing that, all they do is end up killing civilians, mostly women and children, reports today came in on how 30-50 soldiers died in intense fighting (army admitted to it), and reports suggest about 50 ppl, mostly women and children died...
Fking build a wall around Wazirastan and Afghanistan and leave them to their own devices. No one comes out, no one goes in. If they can't live in a 21st century world, they shouldn't try to invade it either.
p.s: Of course I am only venting. Walls are not a solution to anything, but you get my sentiments.

^^Thats why the suggestion was to ask the civilian to leave the area on their willif not then by force and even if still they insist on staying then its their fault and by getting pakistani people opinion over this sort of action the gov can save their A* from the ho haa after any civilian deaths. * Peace can only be acheived with sacrifice....sooner or later we gonna have to bend our finger.
*i dono about 30 to 50 soldiers died but i read it some where is was 20 soldiers. Still its bad , its just a waste of precious life with no assurance of a positive outcome. Guerilla fight is not an easy task..... *
*Time to bring in the real deal. *
the civilians are not going to leave (also I dont believe they should), they sympathize with the extremists, you cant blame them, even osama's a beloved figure if we have leaders who prolong their stay...
Many civilians from the area have already left before the fighting. They won't have a choice when America comes knocking and that's only a matter of time.
Army is not doing that great, but with its losses it also sent 80 terrorists to hell. I know your propaganda sources will say they were all civilians, but that is to be expected. As per news reports, many civilians routinely leave the area of fighting. Large scale migration like in Afghanistan has not happened but sadly if this keeps up, it seems to be the future for the area.
