At 4 minutes 20 seconds, Sohail Tanvir says Hinduon ki zehenihat hi aisi hai…
Wonder what his team mate Danish Kaneria will now think, I wonder why no one else bothered to post about this, these comments were made on a mainstream show and neither the hosts or anyone else seems to care.
If this had happened in India with some Hindu cricketer commenting on a Muslim player …well you all know what would have happened.
deplorable if he meant Hindu in strict religious terms, but time and again, I have come across people (even educated ones) who use this erroneous vernacular in Pakistan - so I'm inclined to discount his statement somewhat... he might simply have meant "Indian" as ravage noted above.
lets not be literalists. the whole conversation seems to be on IPL. I doubt he had any idea that he would be construed as talking about Danish Kaneria.
Unfortunate phrasing, sure. Evidence of racism against Hindus? A bit of a stretch. Please bear in mind that these people dont really rely on their speaking skills to make a living.
I see rav and LC's points but no matter how you twist it, it's hard to swallow what he said. What's wrong is wrong.
I'm not saying it's not wrong... just pointing out that he might not have meant it that way. I can cite plenty of instances where as a moderator, I've corrected posts here on GS where a poster used similar language, whether knowingly or out of ignorance.
He didn't say "hinduon ki zehniyat". It sounded more like "in logon ki zehniyat". The audio was cutting in and out, so it's hard to figure out what exactly was said.
I don't think anyone in this day and age is bigoted enough to say "hinduon ki zehniyat", especially high profile athletes.

I am also not going to try and justify what he said although I know what he said was in the heat of the moment. That interview was done a day (or even less than a day) after the IPL drama on January 19th.
You would think that being a professional they all are polished and have good public speaking skills, which they should have. But no, most of them are just like us and remember we all were upset too that day.
Check at 5:00 when the panelist asks a pretty inflammatory question referring to hindus. Tanvir's response was a measured one, saying it's politics and players don't get involved in politics.
LAHORE: Test cricketer Sohail Tanvir has said that he has got visa for India to feature in the third edition of Indian Premier League (IPL), Geo news reported on Wednesday night.
Well its not an intelligent thing to say but it was very clear that he was very distressed about what Indians did. Its definetly nice nice towards Danish.
