Soft Coffee

Has anyone made this before? My Ammi taught me to make coffee by phaentafying the coffee granules and sugar first but never like this! It’s looks very labor intensive but yummy!

a lot of people in pakistan make coffee like this but they use nescafe's instant coffee.

It tastes more like a latte.

Re: Soft Coffee

I've got Nescafe instant coffee in my pantry, I'm going to try this tomorrow...do you know the ratio of coffee to sugar? He says to use a total of 4 teaspoons of water a few drops at a time..I'm just amazed by the transformation of granules and the volume and thickness!

I always make it this way and it turns out the same.

-1:1 granulated coffee to granulated sugar ratio
-narrower cup for phainting
-add hot water drop by drop
-you can use a fork to phaint instead
-involve more people to avoid cramps in biceps lol

Soft Coffee

^ :D

Re: Soft Coffee

Doesn't all the time gone into.painting make the coffee cold.

Re: Soft Coffee

^^ you phaint it separately in the cup and pour simmering hot milk in the end

Re: Soft Coffee

My dad taught me how to make it when I was younger. Tbh I don't have the patience nor the wrists to do the phanta-fying motions
He says that's he had it growing up in Pakistan

ps: Off topic but that's how Zoya in dhoop kinaray made coffee when Dr. Ahmer came to their house first time ;)

Re: Soft Coffee

does this coffee taste any different than regular ones?

I just made it and it turned out really good!!! Very creamy and cappuccino-esque. I did make a slight modification..I added in some Starbucks Cinnamon Dolce Hot Chocolate mix because I like mochas…was really really good! It’s something I do everyday obviously because now my arm feels like it’s going to fall off but I’ll definitely make this at my next dawat

Re: Soft Coffee

looks really good with kinda pink hue .. nice Khatti

Re: Soft Coffee

This is how we used to make coffee in Pakistan. Its not as difficult as it seems. To add to what proto mentioned, you can replace drops of water with drops of milk (unless you are aiming for a black coffee, which is heavenly on its own).

Re: Soft Coffee

It is all in the mind, some people go have Sabri nihari and say I do not know what is all that fuss about.

I never felt any difference between , making simple instant coffee and making this way.

I make this everyday for my husband and myself in the morning, i don't like regular coffee anymore lol...i've gotten quite good at it, used to take me ages to reach the caramelly stage. For variations... i now use honey instead of sugar, i find it has a deeper flavor and whips up faster. U can add a drop or two of vanilla essence to make it vanilla flavored coffee as well.

Re: Soft Coffee

Can you use a hand blender to do the phainting? I am not looking forward to the workout.

I use a hand blender for my eggs every morning and it makes them all foamy and smooth. Wonder if I can do that for this coffee too?

Re: Soft Coffee

Interesting. Can someone post an English transcription?

Re: Soft Coffee

Try that out and let us know the results.

Before the drip coffee makers and Keurig they used percolators to make coffee which people swear used to taste better. This is nothing but extra percolation with hand. Desi could not afford to buy a percolator. LOL.
He is beating the coffee and sugar mixture 2 spoon of instant coffee and 4 spoons of sugar. He beats it clockwise and anti-clockwise till it becomes hard then he add more water , beats again and so on. He says it takes 20 minutes to prepare this mixture. I would rather go to Starbucks or use my Keurig.

Re: Soft Coffee

You dont need 20 mins. It is good to go in less than 5 mins. I can make a realtime video and post it, but dont feel like right now.

Re: Soft Coffee

Well but then what do you do with the beaten grounds, do you boil it and use the water? Because isn't that what coffee is? Or do you eat/drink the grounds straight?

Seems like how they make cuban coffee.

Re: Soft Coffee

He said at 4:06 that we are suppose to phaint this with hands only, not with any kind of machine/blender , otherwise it will not taste good.

i 'll be making it in my study hours at night, the intense hand exercise will make me wide awake :D
