I have a friend (infact a married couple) both of whom are the loveliest people you can find; they reguarly give to charity, they are kind to others, she makes it a point not to ***** behind peoples back, rather raises a problem if there is one, and both are genuienly good human beings who wouldn’t hurt a fly.
Recently I came to the realisation, that my friend actually has the odd social (alcholic) drink. From what i understand she doesnt go out drinking, it really is the odd one here or there. Her husband knows about this and believe it or not has no issues with this. When i asked them both, do they not see this as wrong, and against our religion, they tend to have a standard answer which in a wierd way does make sense; that is - (a) are we harming anyone else? and (b) only god has the right to judge so why am i asking?
Know, i am not sure about this, hence i raise it with you folks just to see what your thoughts are??
Religon is much more than hurting a fly...whats not allowed is not allowed!!!
either u belive in Quran 100percent or zero percent..theres no pick n choose as to wat u like or feel convinient u do!!!
if it dosnt mean anything n is so social n casual it shldnt be hard to quit
Drinking alcohol is forbidden in Islam. We can justify it as much as we want. Then again, you don't know which act of theirs Allah likes so much for which He will forgive them.
Its a major M-F sin. and why the hell you have to stick with islam???? trust me U can be non muslim and still very happy sara ali!!
Is it because you are social muslim then a real one???
dude.. this is a civilised forum, the question ive raised relates to good friends of mine, (and not me) so please! I didnt put this thread up for personal digs, i put it up for general discussion around this issue!!
Its not weird boss, If I had a dime for every time I ran into such ppl.
Who want toi be Muslims for social reasons , as finding matches and celebrate events.
When it comes to believing all they know is some magic tantrum to make all incredibly happy and get their things done.
if we dont do 5 times prayers, we are not harming anyone either, but not doing salat is still haram ...
what haraam has to do with harming someone or not .. weird logic
... this is very interesting, how many muslims read 5times a day?? yet people don't react as passionatley about this being haram as they do about drinking! Amazing!!

Sara but at the end of the day you are answerable for your deeds. A person who doesnt pray and thinks its all good will be questioned for that. So would be your friends for making drinking halaal coz THEY think so.
And its never been about you me and people. We are not in this world for you me and ppl but the actual purpose is to defeat the Shaitan who has challenged Him.
nah.... you sound like 5 year old too, trying figure out why 2+2 make 4
so are you??
Are you so mentally impotent that getting social acceptance is bigger and harder then any thing else in the world??
Cuz ppl make their place with out leaving their ground.

although I agree with Sara that our society look down upon people who drink more than on people who do not pray ..
Are your friends claiming to be "Good Muslims"? "Are we harming anyon else" comment pretty much tells me that they are not religious and don't care too much about religion.
They are adults and know what they are doing, so leave them alone.
