So…i just want to know…when you guppans use the term SO=Significant other…

is it usually to imply that the person being talked about is a boyfriend??? as in, nothing official yet??

I don’t really use the term “significant other”, it implies that you’re the INsignificant one when referring to the other..

The same goes for “better half”, lol…

i would use it in the official term; the husband/wife. the gf/bf relation isnt as definite and solid to deserve a tag like SO or better half etc.

It is linguistically wrong to use SO for a person.Unless one is married and cohabiting with someone .

I just don’t like that term. So a definite spouse is somewhere between the engagement period to the Nikah time. Also some families don’t believe in an engagement but want to wait a while before the actual marriage, so that’s when “SO” applies.

having a BF is not okay. But finding someone all on your own through friends or whatever and than involving family is much different.

but some people skip the fiance, as it doesn't really mean anything. Also in this situation parents are involved as soon as you find a boy.
