i wants to see what other SO'ers say..
Re: SO
In order:
SO.....fiance....Husband
It the other way around .
A boy or girl , you know and like and want to get married there is no Islamic name for it.
A fiance or finacee , formally decided that you two will be married.
A Husband or Wife - Married finally
Significant Other - If you love and like it each other that they are significant part of your life and you do not imagine a life without each other.
SO is not gender specific , Better Half is not gender specific either.

Ok , I get it.
Re: SO
Story of my life:
guy’s parents knew our family, the guy came in the picture, visited , proposed, engagment, shadi and now for me he’s my SO/hubby/other half (not the better half
) whatever one might call it.
At times typing SO rather than husband/hubby is quicker.
I think terms don’t matter. It’s the intention and niyat that matters of the ppl involved to make any relation as Islamic and pure as possible.
One never fails to come across even ppl who say 'he/she is just like a sibling to me. Or he/she is my cousin/family friend. And later that pra ji/behnji turn out to be their *woh.
*![]()
At times baat pakki is the only committment prior to nikkah. Engagement itself has no value in Islam. Culturally ppl have begun to accept a fiance alot and take it for granted that once engaged, one can meet, go out date etc.
Re: SO
SO (significant other) is an all encompassing term for a spouse, fiance, b/f or g/f, or a domestic partner.
