So you think...

Re: So you think...

are you arguing for or against maintaining a Pakistani identity here? Not to nitpick, but pashtoons associating with urdu, the nation of Pakistan, etc. are very recent events in the time-span you mention. I am not arguing against being proud of your Pakistani identity, but your arguments don't back up what you are preaching here, bro. Identities apparently don't seem to be relevant for over 2-3 generations even in your case.

Re: So you think...

Is the issue simply that when others see us we don't "look" American, and will not accept us as such?

But will we be accepted as Pakistani by those who have grown up there? I doubt it.

Re: So you think...

Ohh lookie an ABCD bashing thread...

just another day at GS :@:

Re: So you think...

I think bro Pak-one was only talking about keeping your Pakistani identity alive, obviously you don't have to give up your Western identity and vice versa.

Re: So you think...

^^^ No no no....Hareem, he was saying you can be either this or that, not both. aag laga laga key phoonking

Re: So you think...

Re: So you think...

agree with Hareem ... he was just saying keeping our identity alive!! :) ... and again no matter hum kitne bhi american british ban jaaye .. dil tu Pakistani haina!! :D

Re: So you think…

No he wasn’t :asa: He’s a nice brother, unlike you, O evil reincarnation of lal mirchain

Re: So you think...

I think boxing champion Amir Khan is a very good example of it.

Re: So you think…

That was so nice :naak:

Re: So you think...

I think most guppies here on GS are very good examples too. They are very much in touch with their culture and religion and they keep up to date with the daily happenings in Pakistan. There are some wannabe's too (inside and outside of Pakistan) and they're the ones who need to get real and come back down to earth.

Also, it saddens me that there's so many divisions amongst Pakistanis. If sindhi, pushto, punjabi, balochi, MQM supporter, PPP supporter, shaia, sunni, ahmadi, bladibla wasn't enough, we now have introduced this retarded ABCD, BBCD, FOB terminology.

Re: So you think...

well said BB!! :)

Re: So you think…

WHATEVER! YOU CM!

Re: So you think…

Whatever to you too GIDSA

Re: So you think…

Exactly.

I don’t understand actually. Either people here are really good in reading between the lines and getting the secret message that pak-one wanted to convey.
Or i am a damn bad reader :hmmm:

You know, once at university, us students was shown a picture of a fat man sitting on a chair, with one girl on his lap and one standing next to him.

We were told to tell what we see on the picture.

And the responses were:

  • The man is a pedophile,
  • The man loves the little boy (it was a girl actually) more than the girl (because the ‘boy’ was sitting on his lap and the girl was just standing)
  • The girl standing is looking sad, because she is not getting enough love from her father.
  • The fat man is a drug and alcohol addict
  • The 3 people in the picture are really poor
    etc etc etc…

Then we got the hear that it is just a picture of a fat man sitting on a chair, with one girl on his lap and one standing next to him :woho:

Moral of the story: Stop seeing (or reading) things that are not there.

You people always claim to be parhay likhay (and i do believe you. Mushqil mushqil se angrezi alfaaz istemaal karte ho. I often have to use google ji) but then why do you fail to read what is actually written??? :hinna:

Nowhere did he say that you should behave like as you never went outside a pind in Pakistan, and nowhere was written in the original post that you should move back to Pakistan or stop feeling home in America or whatever…

Re: So you think...

I hate questions like that. It's like it's meant to trap you. No answer is right one. Ab if someone is going to tell you "hey there is a hidden meaning in this picture", you're going to try to find hidden meanings.

Re: So you think…

Ya I’m really not an American considering I have spend almost my ENTIRE life in the U.S. It’s just a piece of paper

I know what he was trying to say, but his little rant there it pretty offensive. It’s great if he is not able to identify with a country which gives him privileges, but the rest of us can keep a balance and identify between our “thousands of years of history” in Pakistan and our home for our future generations abroad.

Like someone said in their blog, it everyone else who is not able to “fathom the thought that we are happy belonging to both worlds”

Re: So you think…

i soo oo agree with this post ..

Re: So you think...

Hummm.

Still discussing identity crisis?

What's up with this negative attitude in dissing (or liking) someone based on place of birth or upbringing.
It creates more distance between two groups.

People move and then........... they **expect **others to like their heritage. The very same heritage which one left behind for better job and education etc.

Why did you leave YOUR heritage/place of birth to begin with?

One can only try to show the goodness of any culture but cannot force it on someone by using condescending attitude.

Re: So you think...

Are u not that guy who goes to clubs?lol. Nobody is erasing the history, both American and Pakistani culture have own pros and cons..
