So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

I know as parents we’re always looking for ideas from each other so we can offer the most well balanced meals to our kids. What I try to do is offer a starch/carb + protein + veggie in each meal. Breakfast has dairy, fruit and protein + starch. Snack is usually fruit or yoghurt. Dinner is same as lunch where sabzi could be veggies in a salad. Milk and a small snack before bedtime.

My kids are very picky eaters and I’ve seen that small portions of a variety of choices helps them enjoy the options and they don’t feel overwhelmed.

Here’s today’s lunch:

Please don’t miss the purple nail color

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

u made 3salan in one day ? :hayaa: love the purple nails oh annd the plate is awesome aswell :cheer:

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

What is that black crap there? it better not be longay or garam masala! puke

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

What black crap? The salan on the left is kaali masoor ki daal. I don't put garam masala pieces in my daily food. That must be a piece of fried onion from the tarka.

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

No longay either? :D I thought longay and garam masala were the staple of desi food, but I guess it must be different for indian dishes.

I am ok with fried onion, though my brother hates them with a vengeance for some reason.

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

what’s longay?

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

Longay/laung = cloves… I use cloves and mace and stuff in my cooking but I mash it all in a grinder so that it turns into powder..my husband doesn’t like whole spices.

Using “crap” with food isn’t cool!

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

If those things end up in my food, at least I fight a big urge not to puke. I still don’t get it that why does one put it in the food if you are to throw it away anyway. It reminds me of my gora supervisor, who ended up going to a marriage in the family of one of his employees at the other store and he ended up with a bunch of garam masala in his mouth. It was hilarious as he told me how small black balls exploded into his mouth leaving a nasty taste! :hehe:

YIKES longay flavored food!!!

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

Jeez what a drama queen  I used to get those too when my mom cooked…I hated it, but it wasn’t that big a deal.

and the lfood isn’t FLAVORED like longay…it..just adds to the taste, anyways you don’t use much of it, lik emaybe 1/8th teaspoon

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

My kids eat similar things too but without the the division. Plain boiled rice with any type of daal - massor, masar. lobia, chanay, toor.

Lately they like chicken a lot too.

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

That is pretty neat. :)

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

And you call them picky eaters?

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

eastern, they've come a long way. They don't like trying new stuff a whole lot.

Re: So this is a sample of what I feed my kids

I like cloves for aroma.
