So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

Three survivors of the Colorado movie-theater massacre escaped with minor wounds, but were left with broken hearts because their heroic boyfriends died saving them.

In final acts of valor, Jon Blunk, Matt McQuinn and Alex Teves used their bodies to shield their girlfriends as accused madman James Holmes turned the Aurora cineplex into a shooting gallery.

Blunk’s girlfriend, Jansen Young; McQuinn’s girlfriend, Samantha Yowler; and Teves’ gal pal Amanda Lindgren made it out of the bloodbath — but they would have been killed had it not been for the loves of their lives.

Do you approve of what the men did for their girlfriends?

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

It is not surprising that they did this...don't men have that protective instict towards someone physically weaker than they are (women & children)?

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

It’s like when we’re driving somewhere, and my husband slams the breaks suddenly, his gut reaction is to reach out his right arm to shield me in the passengers seat

I do the same for my children, in similar situations…I don’t see anything odd or suspect of any man doing that for a girlfriend…isn’t that a natural reaction, to protect? :hmmm:

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

To protect your loved ones? Absolutely. However I feel absolutely horrible for the women. Having lost loved ones who died protecting them. That is not something you easily "get over".

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

This is so sad and sweet. Of course, not surprising though because it is an instant reaction to help loved ones in trouble. May the survivors find peace and get through this difficult time with ease. I can't even imagine what they'd be going through.

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

What is there to disapprove of? It was admirable and heartbreaking.

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

The fact that although the brave men will guaranteed hold a special spot in the woman's heart, they will most likely move on for a replacement boy-toy, and possibly sooner rather than later.

My partial disagreement also lies with the fact that the men chose to sacrifice their lives for their girlfriends, and not ultimately their wives. And that should take away considerable amounts of significance/value from the role that a wife/mother plays, or no?

The other side of me then kicks in and reminds me of how there is not to be greater love than to lay down one's life for one's own friends.

So clearly, I'm fairly clueless myself here. :-)

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

^ huh? the guy didn't give them time to determine whether this was a long-term relationship. They cared enough about her to protect her. The fact that she may have a relationship with someone else in the future doesn't lessen the guy's courageous act.

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

I would tend to agree. In a situation like that, I don't think *anyone *would stop to ponder wether or not they should protect a fellow human being.

I thought it was courageous of him!! My husband would say girlfriend thi na is liye.. Hehe

yea those women will move on but kindness is kindness and they will forever be indebted to these men!!! They might be able to move on with someone else but that doesnt mean they will be any less grateful!! Also I cannot even the fathom the emotional trauma all these people went thru and will constantly suffer thru because of one freak of nature!!!

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

Many a times people put their lives in danger for complete strangers. Thats a good side of being human.

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

Exodus,

Someone gave their life up to protect someone they loved. They died saving someone else's life.

What they did was heroic and trivializing it is not a nice thing to do...just because the women they saved were mere girlfriends and not wives.

We cannot approve or disapprove of this...not only are we not in a place to but these people are gone.

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

Wow, this is something that would scar you for life. Awful. :(

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

I know, Khattikins. I feel just as fiercely protective of my cup of fro yo when it’s nestled in the passenger seat next to me. Even more so than your husband…cuz unlike you…it just won’t buckle up. :teary2:

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

I don't get what you're so clueless or confused about. You seem to think that there HAS to be some rishta (friend, spouse, etc) in order for one to save another's life. How about humanity? Does that not transcend relationships? It's one thing to avoid helping a woman in a dangerous situation because of fear as I can understand that. But to avoid doing so because you're contemplating "Gee, should I ..or shouldn't I let her die.... I mean she's a non mahram." It would make me question a person's priorities. I've seen it time and time again....that those that get so caught up in the smaller issues....miss out on the bigger picture.

bewaqoof men.

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

Shuhda e Muhabbat :halo:

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

that is the integral human in human being.

Re: So the three men who lost their lives protecting their girlfriends in Aurora

Maybe you did not quite write what you meant -- are you really asking if we "approve"? Or rather are you asking if it was a worthwhile sacrifice?
