So, I've finally gotten my hair to

where it’s longer and thicker than its ever been but I need tips on softening my hair. They feel dry, tangle easily and I keep them braided at home to avoid breakage. Also, I shampoo and condition once or twice a week and oil my hair maybe once every 2 weeks. What can I do get my hair softer and silkier without weighing them down? Thanks in advance =)

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

What did you do to have thicker hair ?

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

Moroccan oil

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

Aloe vera, I found hair serums really keep the hair soft. If you can get a keratin treatment done...

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

Please share what you did to get thicker hair!!

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

Yes, Please do!

Re: So, I’ve finally gotten my hair to

Shampoo once a week? Talk about unhygienic

PS There’s this pink capped Nivea shampoo my sister uses, I use it sometimes and it really makes my hair soft and velvety.

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

So heres what I did:

I attached a filter to my showerhead for soft water and began using a build-up removal shampoo without SLS. I also used an apple cider vinegar rinse weekly, oiled my hair 2-3 times a month usually with jojoba or avocado oil. I gave up styling products and tools for about 6-9 months (I did use a straightening iron once in a while). All those changes really helped my hair grow shinier, longer and thicker and stopped hair fall. But now that its winter time, im seeing dryness and flaking. I controlled the dandruff but the texture of my hair is still blah...

Gina and Reha thanks for the suggestions, will look into those...any brands I should look out for?

@ rizla86: Lol I see your POV and in the past I washed my hair everyday or every other day but that just worsened my hair. Supplementing with a dry shampoo helped me :)

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

hey escapist, is coconut oil as good as jojoba oil to make hair thicker and longer?

question goes to everyone as well?

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

they say honey and cinamon mixed with olive oil helps thicken hai....

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

My parents swear by mustard oil

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

This is a triedand tested method a friend shared with me. When you are showering wet your hair as normal, then apply olive oil to your hair and leave it on, then do whatever else you need to do in the shower then shampoo and conditioner as norma,. Trust me this makes your hair very silky smooth, I do this when I have time but it really does work. About the coconut oil, I don't use it as someone told me that it cause prematueur greying, not sure if its true but I don't want to find out either LOL
I use olive oil on dry hair too.

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

mash a "real" avocado ... mix it with bit of oil and lemon ... apply to hair ... when you are washing this out (after like an hour) .. you will feel the softness .... unlike when you wash dry hair ...

avocado is like a hair miracle for me too really ... i posted about this earlier ...

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

Thanks all, and did anyone try Mayonnaise as a mask on their hair? I'd like to know how that turned out!

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

I have done Mayo masks in the past and I would never do it again. It does soften the hair and makes it very touchable but you can get that effect from any deep conditioner and it's very temporary. It is messy, and the smell afterwards just makes u barf and itstays for couple of days. Yuck!

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

Escapist, which shower filter did you get? I've been looking to get one as well.

Thanks

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

@ Pakcola
I got the Culligan ISH-100 Shower Filter.

Re: So, I've finally gotten my hair to

Re: So, I’ve finally gotten my hair to

the best thing for soft and shiny hair is

castor oil, olive oil , almond oil and coconut oil …appply it 3-4 times a week and shampoo…
u will notice the difference in ur 2nd try :insh:
