So its over and done

We lost, they won! India played well an deserved to win, we were very hospitable but now lets put them aside and lets talk about us for a moment.

Lets talk about what went wrong. I must admit I was expecting Pakistan might loose before the start of the series because lets face it our team’s performance hasn’t been too good. Considering that I think we did really well but India was the better team at the end.

In my humble opinion Javid Miandad has put too much emphasis on improving our batting and our bowling has become just average. Yea yea we have the fastest bowlers in the world but how good they were in the series is i think pretty obvious!

Our batting was good but revolved heavily around Inzimam other than him only Yasir managed to get a big score. So where from here? :stuck_out_tongue:

Mods don’t merge my thread with any other, I hardly ever open a thread, let it stay

Our batting is still the main concern. Look at all the irresponsible shots, I didn't watch Yasir and Youhanna, but look at Younis, Taufeeq, Razzaq.

Youhanna was LBW in last outing, and is LBW again, come'on how can you not locate the ball properly?

Taufeeq, a big time let down in fielding, also disappointed in batting (though better than Afridi).

Younis, I think enough has already been said about him, but today his dismissal shows how irresponsible one can get.

EDIT: sorry couldn't help but criticise our batsmen. I thought that is whats wrong with our team, besides fielding.

Chicken.

Who Shall Be Blame???

PAKISTAN LOST

DID THEY PLAYED GOOD??? OR AGAIN? IT WAS SET??

If we look at our performance before the series, then we can say....

Batting was a little improved, but still fragile and unreliable (specially today its proved)

Bowling (our pride) went astry. Totally lost with no direction what so ever.

IMO Pakistan did not write a game plan around their main weapons - Shoaib & Sami. It seemed like too much hope and too little plan.

Let me add - these are good but not experienced enough to decide strategy

Captaincy...
Fielding...
Extras...
Catches...
Line n length...
Shot selection...
Field Placements...
Defensive approach...
Team Selection...

I cant really think of anything that Pakistan has done well in the series... There is nothing i,m completely satisfied with... Except inzamam's toss winning streak. Even some pretty crucial umpiring decisions went against us, some that were given out, and some that weren't given out.

Inzi didnt have a clue what was going on in the field, there was no strategy, no plan, no guts, no gambles, no attack. He is too defensive, his field placements are ridiculous.... we conceded 5 6 fours cos our third man was too wide or wasnt there at all,, and there were no slips...
bowler gets hit for 2 fours and hes straightaway on the backfoot removing the slips and concentrating on saving boundaries. Have they forgotten about full length balls and yorkers, what used to be pakistani bowler's second nature and their biggest weapon is hardly ever used now.
They gambled with afridi,,,, he got them home in 1, and failed in the next two. Well, if u,ve gambled, and hes failed twice ,,,, at least keep him for the last match, u never know. I,m not an afridi fan, but if u,ve gambled with him, at least go ahead with him for the matches then. He is a potential match winner, and on his day, he can take u home. Putting pressure on taufeeq by bringing him in a crunch game wasnt very wise. He did seem to be in a pretty good nick nonetheless.
Bowlers were totally indiscplined and didnot have any plan or strategy about their line and length while bwoling in general, and while bowling to particular batsmen. Extras were given, batsmen were dismissed off noballs, opposition wasnt attacked at all, the field was defensive too early in the innings...
Waayyy too many catches were dropped, some of them, absolute dollies.

Though there were some positives, like inzi's batting, razaqs batting form, yasir hameed.... but overall... there was nothing much to cheer about.

People might hate me for this, but i blame miandad for this, cos he obviously is the brains behind the whole game plan we have and the way we play the game. He isnt an attacker, but a is always on the defence,,, taking no chances, and waiting for things to happen. We need attackers, someone with guts, who could make bold decisions and be positive and have faith in their calculated gambles.
We lost on the drawing board, plus, all the fukups in the field and while batting didnt really help either.

Relax guys...a bit of inexperience cost us badly in the final but other than that there were some good performances. The ODI's were always going to be the tougher proposition for us as guys like Shoaib aren't cut out to bowl defensively.

I think we got the line up wrong, Taufeeq should have been in from the start and Younis Khan nowhere near the squad. I was disappointed at some of the bowling at the death as well. I feel Pathan and Zaheer did that job well for India and Shoaib and Sami were a bit erratic. I think we will come back strongly in the tests but bowling India out twice is a big ask.

I think Miandad jinxed the whole damn series by his stupid remarks on Pathan before the tour began. He called him "galli ka cricketer". Well BC, this 19 year old galli ka cricketer won his team TWO matches. C* Javed.

I agree. Miandad's comments were really not appropriate.

I think from a qualitative point of view, Pathan should be the Indian man of the series. He injected a fair bit of venom into a bowling attack that was pretty much toothless in earlier matches.

C* doesnt really do justice to miandad after all hes done. We gotta call in some pakka lahoria and invent some new ones for this B*

We need to change our approach to the games...

Naah, I would still retain Miandad. he is a genius cricketer, no doubt about that. I just don't like him when he tries to be Australian and start playing mental games. Just concentrate on the practice sessions and give out the tips. Don't open up your trap if you can't walk the talk.

I love Inzi to bits, but think he's too introverted to make a successful team captain. I think some1 like Moin would be better suited.

Plus get rid of Younis Khan.

Taufeeq is as good a batsman as there is today. Its unrealistic to sit him out through the series, and bring him in in a must-win match, and expect him to perform, and then base your assessment on him based on that.
He should have been the everyday opener for PAkistan, alongwith Yasir HAmeed. THese ridiculous experiments with Afridi and Imran Farhat should be stopped.

but bowling India out twice is a big ask.

That sure is going to be..imagine, if Sehwag doesnt fire, Tendulkar will, if Tendulkar doesnt fire Laxman will and if Laxman doesnt fire then good chance to hit The Wall...looks like a very tough job.

you committed errors of omission and commission. The idea is a good one so let me try the corrected version:

Sehwag fires...Tendular fires then Laxman fires; then Ganguly then Dravid fires then Yuvraj fires then Khaif fires then Irfan fires and then Balaji fires....by that time India has scored 1000 runs and it is day number 4 tea time.

Now the same guys come out and bowl only in the reverse order

We need a firm appraoch in oneday internationals unlike this confused one. Do We need six bowlers?? If we do, stick with that for a whole series. If we dont need a sixth bowler, play with four specialist bowlers atleast so that they can make thier day. I think Razzaq's fall from being a dangerous oneday bowler to be a mediocre part timer has much to do with this confusion in pakistani ranks. When he was on fire with the ball, we used to play with five bowlers and stil get the team combination right.

I agree. I am pro-Taufeeq, I had good expectations from him, but he got bowled out by his own bad judgement of line. But he should've caught those catches, again it was bad judgement of line (sun was really no excuse).
