The Swat deal for example was something that had to be undertaken for the sake of peace. It was worth a shot, because negotiated peace is worth it.
A lot of people. such as the Indian members of this forum, who couldn't even point to Swat on a map, are gloating that its capitulation. But are we really going to turn Swat to rubble? Do we really want Millions of internally displaced? Do we really want to follow the Indian lead and turn Swat into Kashmir?
Take everything in and then decide whether peace in the Swat is worth attempting to make deals with the devil.
I think you people should simply learn to appreciate the complexity of the situation.
