So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

There needs to be an operation in Lyari to help the innocents being killed by these drug gangs.

But as long as that joker Rehman Malik is around, the gangs will not be seriously challenged

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Killed during Iftar, how especially horrible

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Terrorists are on killing spree. An immediate action is required to stop bloodshed in Karachi. If Karachi is down whole Pakistan is down. As TRD rightly said, another Gen Babar is required for cleanup operation. Sooner the better.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Shame for all political parties. Everyone is playing ‘Laashon ki siyasat’. They are not able to solve problems of alive, but ready to own every death body as their own just for spreading their political agenda. Allah hum sab ko apne hifz o aman main rakhe.

Put these areas under curfew and search house by house. Kill immediately when they find a target killer. That is the immediate solution. Zardari should shove his reconciliation process where it belongs. Revive commissionarate system as approved by PA. That stupid has made mockery of himelf and the PPP.

I don’t understand why these cowards are killing Agha Khani Khojas (as they appeared), the most peaceful community.

Karachi in a daze after another 30 killed

http://www.dawn.com/2011/08/19/city-in-a-daze-after-another-30-killed.html

KARACHI: At least 21 bullet-riddled and tortured bodies stuffed in gunny bags were found in different parts of Karachi on Thursday as more than 30 people were killed in the city on the second day of a renewed wave of violence that police saw blended with an ‘ethnic colour’, taking the two-day death toll to nearly 50.

Thursday’s casualties that emerged as the largest single-day toll in current spree of violence left people in a state of constant fear. Despite measures promised both by the federal and provincial administrations, no credible action from the law enforcers was witnessed.

The trend of brutal incidents that emanated from the city’s south district on Wednesday evening stretched to the west on Thursday and police said victims were kidnapped and tortured before being shot dead. Their bodies were stuffed in gunny bags and dumped at various places.

Most of the victims, police said, were common wage-earners who had been kidnapped mostly on Wednesday evening while returning home from their workplaces. In some cases they were dragged off public transport.

With the latest round of abductions, torture and brutal killings, Lyari and other parts of old Karachi and its adjoining neighbourhoods have remained in grip of extreme ethnic tension. Accusations and counter accusations by various politicalgroups over the past 24 hours clearly suggest that the latest round of killings in old Karachi has very little to do with the ongoing war between Lyari’s criminal gangs.

Eyewitnesses and political observers say ethnic and political rivalries were the dominant factors behind most of the killings over the past three days. They point out that while most of those abducted and gunned down earlier in the week were pre-dominantly Lyari’s local Baloch, including footballers and a former MNA, many of those forcibly taken away and shot dead in overnight violence belonged to the Urdu- speaking community.

Allegations levelled by the PPP-backed Lyari Amn Committee and Muttahida Qaumi Movement against each other confirm that divisions during the current wave of violence in old parts of Karachi are along ethnic lines.

Alleged involvement of some Lyari gangsters in the Haqiqi-led attack on an MQM stronghold in Landhi-Malir area last month, a protest campaign by many traders of Kharadar and adjoining areas against so-called ‘protection money’, and retaliatory action by the extortionist mafia and other affected groups were also said to be factors behind the latest phase of targeted killings.

Saud Mirza, Additional IG of Sindh police, said the violence was triggered by a clash between two criminal gangs in Lyari on Wednesday evening.

“But somehow over the hours it turned into an ethnically motivated affair. We have found that criminal gangs are targeting Urdu-speaking and Baloch common men in their respective areas,” he said. He said the most affected areas were those adjacent to Lyari and pockets in trans-Lyari, including Kharadar, Meethadar, Pak Colony, Rizvia and Baldia Town, and the law enforcers were all set to launch an operation there to arrest the criminals.

The overnight scattered grenade attacks and intense firing sowed fear in the south district where residents of old city areas and Baldia Town spent a sleepless night.

In a rare admission of failure, a depressed Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan said the government and law-enforcement agencies had not been able to quell violence.

“Today is not a good day for the Sindh government, police and other law-enforcement agencies,” he said while briefing the media on decisions taken at a meeting convened by the chief minister on the law and order situation.

Accompanied by provincial police chief Wajid Ali Durrani, he said: “We are quite aware of the hands behind this killing spree and disturbance and the government is well aware of its responsibility to protect the life and property of people.”He said the fresh bout of killings could be an attempt to sabotage the ongoing reconciliation talks between the Pakistan People’s Party and the MQM in Islamabad.

But the MQM alleged that “certain leaders in the government” wanted to derail the reconciliatory process between the two parties.

“President Asif Ali Zardari wants to promote the process of reconciliation in Pakistan and he wants better relations between the PPP and the MQM. The president must think what benefit the public will get from the reconciliatory process if the killing of innocent citizens continues,” MQM leader Raza Haroon said at a press conference.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

If this continues there will be Martial Law in the whole country not just Karachi.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Hi

Although I belong to so called Mohajir, must admit I am one of MQM hater, but try to be as reasonable as could be for this debate.

Karachi ties are become hostage between 3 mafias MQM/ ANP /Liyari Aman Committee which has full support of ruling PPP.

In the current situation Liyari Aman committee/ PPP is main culprit, 2nd by ANP and MQM is no innocent but they are more or less reacting the situation (I am not condoning killing by MQM).

The problem brewing from some time, as Liyari was always PPP stronghold, and also notoriously crime hub of Karachi. Traditionally criminals from that area were content to rule their own turf.

On other hand systematic expansion of Pashtoon population on the out strike of Karachi (in fact Karachi has be totally en circulated and most entry or exist routs from Karachi is control by Pashtoon (most new arrivals from KPK).
As most of Karachi is controlled by MQM, now PPP and any ANP started trying to squeeze MQM space to expend their own political clouts, that lead to MQM retaliate are starting of this bloody civil war.

Traditionally MQM has monopoly on all Bhattas from Karachi, but to be honest mostly MQM collect Bhattas or Chandas from sympathetic shop keeper and they are not so crud or violent on this (at least I didn’t experience myself), MQM tactic is mostly using indirect intimidation then open violence (for example a guy with AK47 Kalashnikov would approach you for donation (as seeing armed guy asking for something 90% would oblige him, although there were no threat anyone with violence).

Since Liyari is close proximity of central business areas of Karachi (i.e sadder, Kharadar, Jodia Bazar) even Shareshah (a Kabadi Bazar where whole market traders were gunned down by Liyari gangs). Now PPP gangs namely Liyari Aman Committee also trying to extort monies. That lead to direct conflict with MQM core areas and its support network.
Although MQM goons could be as brutal as one could imagine but, gangs from Liyari with active support of PPP are far more brutal and operating with impunity.

ANP more or less confine to so called Pashtoon suburbs which does not have impact of assembly seats, but atheir main interest is abolishment local body system as, any further elections in old commissioneriate system means they would be able to grab few more seats in Karachi at expense of MQM, which not expected to MQM and leading another bloody war between MQM and ANP (all groups be ANP/MQM/PPP like to show their muscles by killing innocent peoples).
Since the current government is also a party (indirectly) to this confilict and also spend on political support of MQM/ANP they are not serious to take any meaningful action against those groups.

The only change (which might be positive) I believe in recent round of violence MQM lost heavily thus not only suing for peace, but for the first time willing accept deweaponization of Karachi.

One need to understand MQM is a legitimate political force in Karachi, as long as they willing to shun violence and participate in normal politics it would be good for them and country.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Very true!

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

People's Aman Comiitee was disbanded long ago.

And they were only involved in Lyari, not the rest of the city, Orangi,Korangi, Gulshan-e-Iqbal , where the majority of killings have occurred this year.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

In last two days who has killed and who killed them! But you will always take one side.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

How convenient for you.

I was talking about the whole year so far, not just two days - but you decided not to read that!

If you want, we can talk about who has done most of the killings for the last 20-30 years as well! You know that answer to that!

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Yes go for 20-30 years! Things would be almost 50 50 on both sides - you guys never stop mentioning 12 may but easily forget 27 Dec.

You will remember other days from the history but will forget December 1986 and Septmeber 1988.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

People being killed by flies in Karachi and Govt is busy in following:

1) Increase the electricity and power tariff

2) Meetings to discuss killing ( i don't know if they are discussing how to stop killings or how to promote killings, action from the ground suggestion they are discussing later one)

3) ANP, MQM and PPP ( in form of Liyari Aman Committee) have been mandated to do what???? kill people??? so far this is what we have seen from last 60+ days, these killers and their supporters have no respect for Ramadan as well, well how could they respect a religious month all of them claim to be secular first, and secular don't mind killing in Ramadan

4) Kiyani and Pasha, I don't know what they are doing??? it is like if we are being killed and they are watching the show... i hope they are enjoying it

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Are u sure you are living in Karachi, people's Aman committee is very much active, just few months ago PPP minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza declared them as "our childrens".As mentioned it is 3 way fight right now, people Aman Committee/ppp active in saddar burns road, kharadar, as well as Pak Coloney, shareshahp kabadi bazar when armed man gunned down whole market also said to theirvwork. On other side Ourangi Town, and other side of area close to supehighway obviously ANP pashtoon controlled areas, in any case all of these groups could easily travel anywhere for so called hit and run operation. On MQM part they also retaliating by killing most innocent pashtoon labourers, everyone in this war is equally dirty. When MQM feels they have democratic right to go and participate elections or other political activities in other part of Pakistan, but they do not like other parties becoming too active in their own backyard.

Re: So Far 1300 Killed in Karachi This Year in Target Killings

Dear friendsWhy not just condomn all brutalities either 12 may, 1986 or 1988?Instead Of becoming blind Advocate one party lets stand for truth, Wouldn't it be more reasonable?
