So Blahdy Annoying (Part 2)

Emailed Mr/Ms Admin earlier but too impatient to wait for the reply (if it ever comes …. after all the sucking up I did :frowning: )

Right now, I’m having probs posting from my home computer. See, when I try to reply to a thread (or post a new one) the page asking for username and password comes up. I put in my username and pword, and the system seems to recognise me ok & allows me to start replying to the thread. However, when I try to post this reply, it takes me back to the unregistered page  Also, when I log on from the main page, at first it’ll recognise me and tell me how many pms I’ve (not) got, but when I try checking these non existent pms, it’ll bring me back to the unregistered page. The only way I can actually log on is if I go onto a thread that has a link into gupshup (e.g. the one about mod piracy, leading to the desert rose thread).

Please help, as I have assignments up to my eyeballs at the moment, and Gupshup is the only excuse I can think of not do them ….. :frowning:

Thankyou people

(see, there is a nice side to me … when I want sommat  )

Please delete, posted here in error. even perfect people make mistakes (sometimes)

Enable cookies

And how does one go about doing that? I'm a social work student. social workers work wih people not with computers. As far as I'm concerned, cookies are sommat you dip in your tea, so could you please be more specific.

Sadi hopefully this should work - click on “Tools”, then “Internet Options”, then the “Privacy” tab (if you are using Windows 2000). Over here, you should be allowed to add the names of websites that you want to enable cookies for. Add in the following: http://www.gupshup.org

i THINK, for Win 98, it’s essentially the same procedure as above, i.e., click on Tools, Internet Options, then the “Security” tab and add in Gupshup’s URL in the “Trusted Sites” section.

Helpfully, Gizzy had opened a thread regarding this problem in this particular Forum; incase you do not understand the above, his step-by-step advice is more helpful and clear than mine.

Please let us know if that doesn’t seem to work.

… tried it - still not working :sigh: …

Do i have to restart the computer or anything? Haven’t got time tho, getting late 4 uni. will try again 2nite …

hmmmm. Sorry, i'm lousy at explaining technical stuff:~(

No, you shouldn't have to restart anything; the modified settings should take effect immediately.

i was working at one of my university's computers today and i was experiencing the exact same problem; by any chance do you see an icon of a tiny red padlock on your Status bar (at the bottom of the screen)? IF you see that, double-click on that; it will allow you to alter the settings for websites.
Let me try to think of some other possible way to help; if you don't mind my asking are you using Win 98 or 2000?

ooh, one more thing that may or may not work - instead of www.gupshup.org, try adding www.gupistan.org That's what Gizzy suggested in his thread... i am not certain, but perhaps worth a shot.

Nope, tried Gipistan, but it still ain't working :mighty stressed, pulling out hair icon:

There's no padlock icon on status bar - got a stop sign one though, might that be it?

Using windows XP. Got another hour or so to try and sort this thing out so a prompt reply would be much appreciated :)

Sobi

p.s - Don't put urself down - ur xplaining it mighty well so far ... :)

Thanks, Sadi:~)
Okay, let's see whether we can solve this within an hour or so. Regarding the Stop sign in the Status Bar - MIGHT lead us somewhere, maybe the 'Stop' is symbolic of restricted websites on your comp; if you do not mind my asking what do you get if you double-click on that Stop icon?

You're using Win XP... i'm still stuck in the prehistoric age so i'm using Win 98. Once you click on Tools, Internet Options, what do you see when you click on the Security tab? Does it show you a bunch of websites that state "Internet", "Local Intranet", "Trusted Sites", "Restricted sites"? i'm not certain how different it is between Win XP and Win 98; when i click on my Security tab, i see the different names of the sites mentioned above as well as below this, "Custom" security levels where i can alter the security settings for each category of websites. Do you see anything remotely similar to this on your comp?

ooh, try this: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Internet Options -> now click on the Advanced tab. In all of the listed options there which you are allowed to tick on or off, do you see anything that states Enable/Disable cookies?

Just as a thought - if this doesn't work, from this same window, click on the Security tab, then "Restricted sites", and make sure that no Gupshup-related websites are accidentally listed under this area.

ok, when i click on the stop sign, it brings up a list of website (cookies?) that are blocked - Gupistan being one of them.

Windows XP has been nothing but trouble - stick to 98 girl!

As for the tools thing, when i click onto it, it says i have medium security - and it'll block '3rd party cookies that use personally identifiable info without users implicit consent' or sommat like that. At the bottom, it gives me an option to edit, which is where i clicked to allow gupshup cookies.

Ne help?

Only got 20 mins to go ....

20 minutes only? eek.
>>when i click on the stop sign, it brings up a list of website (cookies?) that are blocked - Gupistan being one of them.<<
Alright, at least we're getting somewhere Masha'Allah. At this particular window does it give you an option anywhere to remove Gupistan from the list of websites' cookies that are blocked? Does it say Edit/Enable/Remove anywhere at the Stop icon?

Regarding the Tools thing - so you edited it to allow Gupshup cookies. Great. Now if it still does not work, would it be possible for you to adjust the security from Medium to Low - or do you need it on Medium security level for a particular reason (like if you have a younger sibling or something)? If not, then try lowering it to one of the lower security settings, maybe doing so will automatically effect your computer's allowing of cookies.

Can't c anything there for enabling/disabling cookies ...

also, no sites have been restricted (no trusted sites either tho - do u think that might be it?)

12 mins ...

Yeah, in the Trusted Sites section, can you add Gupistan.org and Gupshup.org? (Sorry, i know i keep telling you to do this every where). i re-checked Gizzy’s thread and he had added Gupistan.com … :~/ hehe, if you are not sick of me yet, try adding that as well. :flower1:

One more thing - that Stop icon… can you right-click on it with your mouse and see whether or not it gives you an option like ‘Disable’ or Deactivate?

ok, the stop sign doesn't let me edit it - brings up an option 4 settings, which takes me onto that same old privacy page, where i've just turned the setting to low. will c if this works ...

10 mins - we'll get thru it :) inshallah

10 mins :crying:

OK, does your Security tab window look like this:
http://gim.gupshup.org/gal/A/MS-IE6trouble.JPG Sorry this is a dumb question but i assume you have the Setting for “Always Allow”, right?

hm, a very weak thought but i wonder if it would help if you click (sorry, again for only the gazillionth time) on Tools -> Internet Options -> General tab -> Temp Internet Files -> Settings. Does it ask you whether you want to 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' or something similar to this? ONLY IF so, then click on the option of 'Every visit to a page'.

Oh my God, not sure whetehr it was setting the security to low, or the adding of gupshup.org/gupistan.org/gupistan.com to my trusted sites but sommat seems 2 have worked -0 with 4 mins to spare :) :) :) !!!!!!

Seriously Nadia, thankyou sooooooooooooo much for your help. Let me know if i can repay the favour some time by talking you through motivational interviewing for drug and alcohol abuse or domestic violence some time :)

Once again, thanx :)

Let's just hope it works when i get home ....

Allah Hafiz

lolz… woohoo:~) Masha’Allah.
Just in the nick of time:D

No problemo, so glad to help. Many many thanks for your patience with me as i made you click a thousand things again and again and you never complained. :flower1: Deeply appreciated.

Thanks again. Have a great day at uni,
