snotty looks from desi girls

high five

 :k:

I’m wearing a red cashmere sweater today at work..I am offended

high five

Nadia, whenever a desi girl does that to me i just smile at them and say hi. Try it out sometime, or simply ignore them.

I remember this one time I was travelling from Pakistan to UK. Looking like I just came out of my bed (which was kind of the case, didn’t even brush my hair) and all these girls we dolled up wearing all their sonah and faces full of make-up. I started talking to this one girl who was sitting next to me and she was like ‘aap itni uuhhm simple kyoun travel karti hain?’ I felt great travelling like that, who wants to check their hair and make-up every 2 mins?

On the other hand I like to dress up occasionally or put in some extra effort at least. It just makes you feel better at times. SOmetimes you feel like a total slack (well I do) and it’s nice to know people notice when you ‘dress up’ With dress up I mean look different than you normally do.
I say casual look zindabad :k:

You should just learn to ignore girls who give you that look. DOn’t let it bother you.

That's so true Belle. You catch them off guard and then they say hi back ... turns out they aren't so bad after all cause you get talking. You should definitely try that. Or, just smile at them. Then again, if you don't care then just ignore it. I know that smiling and initiating conversation works!

i think there is some confusion here with the use of the word casual.
one can be dresed casually but be well dressed.

one can be well dressed whether casually dressed, or formally dressed.

but casual is not the opposite of well dressed at all.

^What I meant with casual was not 'all dolled up'

(everything matching, make-up, manicure etc)

The student center and IC are particularly bad. Ive stopped caring about what I wear, now it's always oversized stuff because the people who love me don't care so i dont either. I also get snottly looks cuz of acne not to mention the first thing some desi girls and aunties say is what happened to your face. whateva, comments about clothes dont hurt, these ones do and people dont even realize. when someone gives snotty looks i just look down and dont bother.

^ are u new. nice to meet u. my name is gamma

I can soooo relate to that! People can be sooo mean without them even realising it. sigh
It's almost like you have to apologise for the way you look :-/

right right i get your point, but..
casual does not mean mis matched clothing accessories or ungroomed appearance right?

let me illustrate with an example

a well groomed guy wearing khakis, brown sandles, brown belt, and a crisp white shirt is casual..(unless its a linen shirt in which case it will not be quite crisp..but still wont be scrunched up)

teh guy wearing khakis with chappals and a big black leather belt and an ill fitting shirt is a slob.

opposte of made up is not casual, but is sloppy or a slob, opposite of formally dressed is casually dressed.

desis..like many other people have challenges figuring out what casual is. This is evident on casual fridays in many companies. guys show up in phateecher chinos, argyle socks and tan trainers with big velcro tabs, horizontal stripe jersey material polos which are thn enough that you can see the banyaan underneath.

That is not casual, that is just sloppy

I really don't think it matters how you dress unless your going to school to get noticed or 'hook up.' Now being clean and looking decent is something that everyone should be doing. In comparison to the ladies, guys have it a liitle bit easier..shirts and khakis or tees with jeans are all you need.

I remember during undergrad, just about every girl (desi or not) came dressed like she was going to club. I happened to know a few ladies who actually came to class late because 1. they were busy getting decked out 2. they wanted the extra attention when they walked in and interrupted the class. It was all so very distracting for us guys..I mean who wants to listen to the finer points of the Ricardian model when theres a hottie next to you?

so this is to say that anytime somone dresses nicely he/she is trying to get noticed or hook up? I suggest that there are those who like to dress well and be well groomed just because they want to.

Helloooo!!! Chicks look good in Short skirts..well those who can pull it off do. Nothing wrong with that. Guys with poor dressing habits are just a resultof being idiots.

Heyyyyyyyyy.

No they don't.

Depending on the lenght of the skirt and the season, they either look stupid or fat.

(If you look like a tartni you fall under the stupid banner, this tartni is gender indiscriminative)

^ Not ot be confused with a tartini. A wonderful elixir or Sour Apple and Absolut. :yummy:

^ Coming from a yankna, I am not surprised. Think of your national waistline.

To keep it revelvant, we've many times displayed discust for the idiocy of desi females. I am going to start a I heart desi kuris club.

So what if they are shallow and stupid and petty. If we are truely comfortable they can get screwed, they wish and we don't. Procreation should be banned in our species as the females therein seem to be carrying the stupid gene.

To be frank, ignore them. Some people refuse to grow up, and the snooty look is quite funny if you squint and tilt your head to the right.

i’d take belle’s advice and start a conversation  most of my friends look as though they’ve stepped outta ‘sex and the city’.. totally gorgeous females.. but they dont dress to impress the blokes.. its for their own personal satisfaction

i was a very casual dresser at uni too.. and i still wear my sneakers to work  i always fall in my heels

Fraudz, I did mention the difference between dressing neatly and looking decent. If your dressing in a mini with high heels during the middle of winter, just to come to class, you tell me the motivations?

A guy wearing khakis and a shirt..sure thats reasonable but coming in your best Armani three piece with your cologne entering the room before you do, definately means something is up. Oh btw, I have seen guys (of the Middle Eastern my dads a Shiek variety) pull that stuff, but even they admit, it's to impress the ladies.

In college, most of us are try to be practical..doesn't matter the tastes, or economic class..Now if your going out of the way, it's eitherto get noticed or hook up. Thats the real deal.
