I feel like being voice of silent majority again.
I and many find it annoying when people use SMS/text messaging style English in these forums.
Again it is not cell phone which has only ten keys and you have no choice but to use short cuts. But when you are in front of a computer you have a key board in front of you which has 101 key at least.
So I submit the motion that SMS/Text messaging style posts should not be allowed in these forums.

This is US based forum so US style English is fine. We have booted out Queen from our neck of the woods more than 200 years ago.

CE I removed that post, along with your and numb’s posts in other thread. There are many ways to express your difference of opinion without getting personal.
Yes, I agree whole heartedly. On a lot of other forums writing in text is against the forum rules. It is very annoying to have to decipher the writing to understand what is written. Also some people who may have reading/learning difficulties may not be able to read the text language.

I agree..................I cant stand text lingo and it should be limited to texting only. I can make it out but its distracting and annoying...it also feels like Im talking to someone in the 8th grade!
I try to make an effort but seriously Mirch Bhai is right. We should try to make our posts as legible as possible for other readers on these forums.

With all seriousness, one of the reason that I bought the full keyboard smart phone so its easy for me to type proper English and not the short form version (not that I was ever able to type that version anyway)

Although text-type writing is very hard on our minds and eyes, banning it is absolutely ridiculous. People need to be more tolerant of others’ shortcomings. There are people here who are genuinely undereducated and/or English isn’t their first language. They can type MSN lingo or text lingo - it’s Internet at the end of the day - global.
On the other hand, there are high school students here who think it’s fab to type like that, so let them be.
It’s no secret that people don’t take funny text-typed posts as seriously as they do properly typed ones.
Let’s get a move on…
I dont think that sms typing is a reflection of someones intellect or a sign of undereducation .. in fact sms typing requires pretty sharp skills like shortform type that stenos used to use during dictations from their boses once.
