We all know the effects of smoking. Please share stories of people you know who have quit and how they did it.
Re: Smoking
I know only one person who quit successfully and in the nick of time ( I will explain that shortly).
He says that he quit cold turkey. One fine day he decided he is not going to smoke again and never touched it . He was a chain smoker , lived in KSA.
Later on he moved to USA, after a couple of years being in USA and after about 8 years of quiting he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He underwent chemo and radiation therapy and was cured. His voice organs were saved . No major harm done. That is why I said earlier in the nick of time.
Other than that so many of friends and acquaintances tried to quit in vain. One friend will tell every week end he has quit but on Monday I will see him smoking.
Re: Smoking
i dont know anybody who has successfully quit smoking... the truth is ..when one starts smoking.. it's almost impossible to quit.
Re: Smoking
I know of 2 guys. Both of them quit cold turkey. They're doing great now. It takes a lot of committment and will power from what I hear, but the benefits are great.
Re: Smoking
I quit cold turkey.
Re: Smoking
I hear that is the only real way!

I am not in CA anymore. I sure would love to move back there.
Re: Smoking
hard yes, but do-able ...at least minimizable, ideally to be left altogether for personal health and healthful air quality.
Re: Smoking
a triple bypass is the best way to quit cold turkey :)
Re: Smoking
As a kid, I hated it when my dad smoked so I used to hide his cigs or throw them out. He cut down on them significantly but quit completely when he was diagnosed with two blocked arteries. Alhumdulillah, he's doing great now and has not smoked in years. He used to chew gum or saunf alot whenever he felt the need for cigs.
Recently, I am telling every smoker I know to quit!!!!!! Why? Because a month and a half ago, R's mamoo passed away suddenly due to heart failure and he was only in his 30s. He used to have sky high cholestrol due to smoking and didn't want to go on medication. His death shook everyone up and I really hope people who smoke realize that you need to take care of your health ESPECIALLY when you have a family and kids who care for you.
