The reasons I’m laughing at you ppl are firstly, that yearly screening isn’t necessary…it has been shown that once in two years is a good enough frequency to screen for cervical cancer.
Secondly, in order to get cervical cancer it is necessary to be infected by a high-risk HPV-virus (low risk HPV gives genital warts). This high risk HPV can be contracted via sexual intercourse: in other words, it is an STD.
And assuming, that the ladies here and their respective hubbies are ‘loyal’ to each other, one would expect the ladies here not to have contracted HPV yet. So I wonder what the value is of all this cervical screening with you ppl, certainly with such a high frequency of every year, unless…
on the other hand, you never know of yourself or your hubby, so having a smear once in 2 to 4 years seems okay

You do what you have to do. Sure the first few times are embarrasing , but keep in mind that if you decide to have a baby you'll go through a heck of alot of stuff that requires putting all sharaam aside. Atleast woman can go and do this whereas many men have too much pride to get a colon exam and risk getting cancer.

Nescio - I am glad you are so comfortable passing on your knowledge of how often women should see a doctor and how often to screen. Must be nice to be able to put us all straight, lord knows we wouldn’t know when to go if you weren’t there. 
I would love to know where you got such advice, my doctor and public service announcements seem to disagree with you. Tell you what, you do your prostate screening once every two years and let us deal with what we have.
Anyway, I will continue to grit my teeth and go every year, I would rather know early if there is a problem than later, ups my chances of beating it.

That reminds me. I must make an appointment to have another one done. It's been quite a while since I had my last one. My friend has one every three years and pays for it herself as the National Health Service only pay for one every 5 years. I think I might start doing that but every 1 or 2 years instead.

Nescio - Sorry, according to Dept of Health every 1-3 yrs is ok, so technically you are in the right. However for those of us who are prone (breast and cervical cancer run in family), we should be screened more often. Myself, I am scheduled every 6 months because I have not hit remission yet, got 2 more yrs. Everybody in my family goes once a yr. Every US provider covers once a yr and Dr's recommend once a yr.
I think it was the assumption that we were idiots or "silly" for talking about going once a yr, so I got offended. Some of us need that, some don't. Perhaps you should keep that in mind when responding in such an off-handed way to personal subjects as this.

it is excruciating pain for about 5 mins and after that it is all over. It is embarrasing when you go to the OBGYN for your yearly check up and they make you put on that paper thingy - ugh! So no less embarrasment checking out your cervix just VERY painful.

anyways as i was saying that no decent girl in her right mind should let a stranger put things in her pvt organs…many docs are just pervs and they come up with these ways to feel innocent women..

I would definitely agree! Many doctors are pervs indeed. Perhaps it’d be better to visit female doctors for such tests.

Lussi - I was rude, wasn't I? I guess I was wondering what you think we could use as an option for cervical cancer testing, not to mention any and all of the other problems that can develop, especially during pregnancy. Do you think if we wish really really hard it will all suddenly disappear? When you make a judgement call like that you invite rudeness. Especially when you call people names for doing something that keeps them healthy.
Tell me how you feel after your first prostate exam, please, I heard most guys really love that one.
