I got of those reminders… and iv never had one coz my doctor said I had to wait till I was sexually active… he knows im married now.. I have to make an appointment…

Ack. Its just one of those things you gotta do. It doesnt hurt but its definitely not fun. If you have a doc that you trust and like its not quite as bad.
This, from a mama who still hasnt gone for the 6-week post-partum checkup - my baby boy was born over a year ago lol! 3 babies and i still havent gotten over it.
But seriously we gotta take care of ourselves, buckle down and as Nike says "just DO it". Tell u what, you make your appt and go... and so will I. We can bash the docs and the yucky experience after.

Its a test for cervical cancer or abnormal pre-cancerous cells in the cervix. The doc takes a q-tip and swabs the cervix. Should have the test once a year from around age 18 on. The cervix is the opening to the uterus so as you can imagine, the test is not painful but its embarrassing. Just remember the docs do this every day and its just routine to them even though its a HUGE deal to you. They dont even think twice about it. I worked in that field for a while and got to know alot of the docs, and they're just doing their jobs, like making photocopies or installing software.

WOW photocopies of the cervix, how did they manage that, do they have a USB cable that they plug to install the software from their disks or they use some other method, are the files tarz or just zipped. Since you worked in this field these should be simple questions.

I was so nervous the first time I got a pap smear...but honestly just like Mof3 said...the docs are really great about making you relax...and are very professional!! Just tell them its ur first time...actually they will know...ahhahahaha its just something that they can see in your eyes!! you will be fine..just bookt he appt and get it over with...

i work in this field myself so i know how it goes.. its being on the other end thats the problem… im terrified.. but its the embarassment more than anything else..
my nurse colleaugue has even offered to do it herself..but im like 
ill make an appointment soon (maybe in the next 2 months) hehe
but u go n get ur postnatal check.
god the thought of opening yourself up in front of someone else …

Its not the test itself, its the 5 seconds of being on a table helpless, with your private regions exposed to unknown eyes thats the challenge.
