Smallpox?

Smallpox, Leprosy…

Re: Smallpox?

Yes is a disease?

Re: Smallpox?

malayria an tb etc

Re: Smallpox?

oh.
Plague, Cowpox,

Not TB

Re: Smallpox?

Actually, NONE of those diseases have been completely eradicated. The only thing keeping them at bay is innoculation - for which people are these days beginning to question.

Myself, I think innoculation is necessary. BUT I also think that a reasonable innoculation schedule needs to be implemented on a PER CHILD basis. They innoculate a healthy, 9 pound infant with the same dosage as a 4 pound immuno-compromised preemie. NOT a good idea. I dont think that parents need to go the other extreme and refuse all innoculations but a reasonable and PERSONAL schedule should be followed.

Re: Smallpox?

Good point MO3.

Re: Smallpox?

MO3.. we no longer do the vaccination for small pox since WHO declared it globally eradicated in 1979..apparently there are just three places in the world which were allowed to keep the live virus of small pox, for vaccination purposes if ever needed, two of them are in the US and one in Russia!!

Polio was supposed to be eradicated by 2000, but last I heard in 2006, there are still four countries with reported cases of Polio, that is Pakistan, India, Afghanistan, and Nigeria.

Leprosy hasn't been eradicated globally.. there were reported cases in the US until 2005-2006 I think and there are still reporting it in South Asia (India, Nepal, Bangladesh to name a few)

Malaria and other mosquito-born diseases are still around too in most underdeveloped countries!!

In conclusion, only small pox has been eradicated globally and you dun vaccinate your kids with the live virus anymore!!

Re: Smallpox?

^according to latest reports from WHO SARS has also been 'eradicated' from the human population ....at least, for now....

Malaria is very much a killer in many african countries...Unfortunately.

Even TB has not been eradicated
